Project Manager / Design Manager | Sydney | VG Project Group

VG Project Group is a Sydney-based project management and construction consultancy delivering prestige residential, seniors living, commercial and fit-out projects across NSW. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager / Design Manager to take our projects from concept through design and into delivery.

This is a deliberately dual role. Depending on the project and where it sits in its lifecycle, you may lead the design phase, run delivery, or do both at once. On one project you will chair consultants and drive DA and CC approvals; on another you will manage procurement, programme, and cost to completion. Some projects will require both from you at the same time.

It suits someone who does not want to be boxed into one half of the industry. It will not suit someone who needs a narrow, repeatable scope.

What you'll own

Design management

- Chairing and controlling the design phase — leading consultant teams to finalise design that meets contract requirements and the construction programme
- Preparing and managing the design programme, with monthly status reporting against the critical path
- Managing DA, CC and authority approval processes with councils and relevant authorities
- Design compliance: DBP Act, NCC, BCA/DDA, fire certification and relevant Australian Standards
- Reviewing and signing off consultant scopes, fee proposals and design deliverables
- Shop drawing and document control, RFI tracking, and design-related variation assessment

Project delivery

- Preparing and managing project programmes
- Managing procurement end-to-end: EOI, RFQ and RFT processes, tender analysis and recommendation,



subcontract award and administration
- Project cost control, forecasting and cash flow — progress claims, variations, purchase orders and cost-to-complete reporting
- Administering head and subcontract obligations, including time bars, EOTs and claims under the Security of Payment Act NSW
- Managing project risk, and developing solutions and contingency plans before issues become problems
- Monthly reporting to the Directors on programme, cost and WHS status
- Site inspections, and leading a solid safety and quality culture with both client and subcontractor personnel

Across both

- Managing client, consultant, council and authority relationships that generate repeat work
- Mentoring junior staff
- Contributing to estimating and business development where your project knowledge helps us win work

What you'll bring

- 5–8 years in project management, design management, or a role spanning both, in the Australian construction industry
- Tertiary qualification in Construction Project Management, Architecture, or Engineering (structural or civil), or a Certificate IV in Building and Construction with commensurate experience
- Demonstrated capability on both sides — you have led consultant teams through design, and you have run a project through procurement and delivery
- Working knowledge of the NCC, BCA/DDA, DBP Act, WHS Act and Regulations 2011, the Security of Payment Act NSW, and relevant Australian Standards
- Outstanding written and verbal communication, with the negotiation skills to hold consultants and subcontractors to account
- High level of accuracy and strong attention to detail
- Driver's licence and Construction white card
- Procore experience regarded favourably
