About the role The Biodiversity and Ecological Health Branch is seeking a Project Officer Ecologist to work as part of the NPWS Feral Cat Monitoring team. This is an exciting role supporting the implementation of a state-wide feral cat monitoring program that directly informs on-ground conservation actions. The Project Officer Ecologist will be involved in a variety of activities, including the development and coordination of fauna surveys, reviewing guidelines and procedures, conducting monitoring surveys, and data processing and analysis. The role provides an excellent opportunity to work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders, project managers and researchers across several national park regions in NSW.

The role reports to the Senior Project Officer Ecologist in the Feral Cat Monitoring Team but has autonomy to manage tasks and projects, manage individual priorities and performance, and co-ordinate projects either individually or as part of a team.

About you

Your passion for the environment, positive mindset, and expertise in biodiversity and ecological health monitoring will be key to your success in this role. Candidates with experience in ecological fieldwork and data analysis will bring valuable expertise to the team.

You are adaptable, eager to learn, and willing to apply new skills across both field and analytical environments. You can confidently translate complex scientific concepts into high-quality advice and information for a broad range of stakeholders.

You have robust relationship-building skills and can contribute to project development and delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy requirements, environmental objectives, and broader program priorities. You enjoy working as part of a team but are also happy to work alone or with minimal supervision.





Demonstrated experience in undertaking fieldwork is required. This involves, but is not limited to, working in remote and varied locations throughout NSW, working under challenging environmental conditions, the ability to work within a team, an understanding of a range of resourcing, safety and logistical requirements, and a flexibility to work outside normal hours and workdays. A reasonable level of physical fitness and 4WD experience is also required.

Essential requirements

- A relevant degree / tertiary qualification or extensive experience in conservation science, ecology, or related field
- Experience in ecological data analysis

- Current Australian Class C Driver License
- Willing and able to assist with remote and physically demanding ecological fieldwork
