About The Role The Regional Economic Development Specialist partners with the community, government, small businesses, and industry to foster sustainable economic growth and regional prosperity. The role focuses on creating a welcoming environment that makes it easy to do business with Council, attracting new businesses and investment to the region, and enhancing the prosperity and sustainability of existing local businesses. The position facilitates programs that address regional needs, including retaining and growing a skilled workforce, identifying organisations that can create positive futures for the next generation, and enabling access to solutions that support continued regional growth, such as key worker accommodation, land,
and housing options.
Key Responsibilities
- Identifying and facilitating investment, development and major projects that support economic growth.
- Building strong partnerships with businesses, industry, government agencies, neighbouring councils and regional stakeholders.
- Supporting local business retention, expansion and diversification.
- Promoting the Maranoa as an attractive location for business, investment and population growth.
- Identifying and pursuing government and private sector funding and grant opportunities.
- Undertaking research and analysing economic trends, opportunities and challenges.
- Developing business concierge services and supporting the Small Business Friendly program.
- Promoting the region at industry events, forums and advocacy opportunities.
- Hosting and supporting potential investors and facilitating connections with Council and the local business community.
- Supporting strategic planning initiatives, including land availability and infrastructure opportunities.
- Exploring opportunities to leverage Council assets, including the Roma Saleyards, Roma Airport, sporting facilities and industrial sites, to support regional development.
- Working with key industry sectors and strategic partners to strengthen workforce capability and small business success.
- Contributing to Council's growth strategies, plans, policies, reports and economic development initiatives.
- Supporting the Maranoa Business Awards and Business Excellence Program.
- Managing activities within approved budgets and ensuring the effective and economical use of public resources.
- Contributing to continuous improvement through creative, solutions-focused approaches.
