About the chance
We are seeking two full-time roles as a
Child and Youth Mentor
with our Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) program in Hervey Bay. The key elements of these roles are to provide a range of flexible, responsive, non-clinical mental health services to meet the needs of children and young people affected by, or at risk of, a mental health condition, and their families and carers.
What you'll be doing
Provide short and long-term interventions including assessments, goal setting, Family Action Plans, referrals, and practical support.




Deliver ongoing case management and continuity of care to young people and families within a culturally sensitive environment.
Conduct needs and risk assessments to identify appropriate supports and pathways to improve client outcomes.
Build client capacity through education and evidence-based programs delivered individually and in group settings.
Connect clients with community resources and services through information provision, referrals, and advocacy.
Promote the FMHSS program and IMPACT services through community engagement and awareness activities.
Maintain accurate, timely and compliant client records including case notes, supportability, and departmental databases.
Ensure compliance with confidentiality, contractual obligations, legislation, and professional standards, including Child Safe and Disability Service Standards.
To succeed in this role, you will have
Certificate IV in Youth Work, Community Services or similar vocational qualification (Desirable)
Demonstrated experience supporting young people (up to 18 years) experiencing mental health challenges, with exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Strong understanding of mental health, trauma-informed practice, and recovery-oriented approaches, with the ability to provide strengths-based, holistic and culturally appropriate support.
Knowledge of child development, early intervention and child protection principles,



with a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children, young people and families.
Ability to manage challenging behaviours and respond calmly, professionally and sensitively in complex or unpredictable situations.
