About the Company
Our client is an established Australian drilling contractor providing field drilling services across projects throughout Australia.
With a strong focus on safety, operational performance, training and professional service delivery, the company is seeking experienced Drillers to support its ongoing field operations.
About the Role
The Driller will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a single drilling rig and the day-to-day delivery of field drilling activities.
This is a hands-on operational role requiring an experienced Driller who can safely operate drilling equipment, lead field crews, maintain production and productivity targets, complete required safety and operational documentation, identify equipment faults and communicate effectively with clients, management, workshop personnel and other service providers.
The drilling work covers a range of drilling methods excluding RC and blast hole drilling, with Fraste rigs predominantly used.
Key Responsibilities
Drilling & Field Operations
- Safely operate and manage day-to-day field drilling activities on an assigned drilling rig.
- Carry out drilling operations in accordance with project requirements, work schedules and company procedures.
- Maintain drilling production and productivity in accordance with schedules determined by management.
- Complete pre-start inspections and ensure the drilling rig, vehicles, plant and equipment are maintained in safe working condition.
- Identify and report equipment faults and implement appropriate corrective actions within the scope of the role.
- Assist with loading and unloading drilling equipment before and after projects.
- Support mobilisation, demobilisation and field logistics.
- Use electronic devices and company systems to complete daily operational reporting and live data transfer.
- Provide accurate reporting to management, including equipment condition and maintenance requirements.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Comply with company environmental, safety and health management systems,
asset management requirements, quality systems, policies and procedures.
- Lead by example and actively promote a robust safety culture across drilling operations.
- Complete required field documentation, including rig, vehicle, plant and equipment inductions, pre-starts, reporting schedules and safe work documentation.
- Participate in and support incident reporting and investigations.
- Support emergency preparedness and response requirements.
- Identify and communicate hazards and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
- Maintain high housekeeping, work culture and behavioural standards in the field.
- Comply with all applicable client and site safety requirements.
Crew Leadership & Training
- Provide day-to-day direction and guidance to drilling crew members.
- Mentor and train junior drilling personnel in accordance with company requirements.
- Support crew competency development and completion of company training and client onboarding requirements.
- Promote appropriate work standards, personal presentation, performance, competency and compliance with instructions.
- Encourage professional development and career progression within drilling crews.
Client Liaison & Communication
- Represent the company professionally when dealing with clients and other stakeholders.
- Liaise with clients at field level regarding daily drilling activities and operational requirements.
- Communicate effectively with management, workshop personnel and service providers.
- Provide clear and factual information regarding drilling progress, equipment condition, operational issues and field requirements.
- Support field logistics and authorised purchasing where required.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 7 years' relevant drilling experience preferred.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience operating drilling rigs in field environments.
- Experience with drilling methods other than RC and blast hole drilling.
- Experience operating Fraste drilling rigs is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated ability to independently run field drilling operations on a single rig.
- Strong understanding of drilling operations, equipment, field procedures and safe work practices.
- Ability to identify drilling and equipment issues and implement practical corrective actions.
- Experience leading, mentoring or training Driller's Assistants and junior crew members.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Ability to complete accurate drilling, safety, maintenance and operational reports.
- Good communication skills and ability to liaise professionally with clients and site personnel.
- Ability to work effectively in remote FIFO environments.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Qualifications & Licence Requirements
- Relevant recognised drilling qualification, preferably Certificate II or Certificate III in Drilling Operations.
- Candidates holding the appropriate drilling qualification will be considered for classification and payment at the applicable Driller rate.
- HR Driver's Licence – minimum requirement.
- White Card.
- 4WD training / competency.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Appropriate driving competency and ability to safely operate vehicles in remote field environments.
- Ability to meet company and client onboarding and site-induction requirements.
- Ability to complete required pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol screening and other site-entry requirements.
