Would you like to work for one of the best community health programs in NSW? The Statewide Eyesight Preschooler Screening (StEPS) program is a free population-based vision screening program designed to identify childhood vision problems which cannot be detected by observation, behaviour, or family history. The StEPS program offers 4-year-old children a free visual acuity screen using a validated test. The mission for StEPS is to identify children with potential vision problems to prevent blindness or reduced vision and improve the physical, emotional, social and economic outcomes for children and their families. Vision problems are often highly correctable if only they are caught early enough. The StEPS program plays an key part in making sure that children in NSW have the best possible opportunity for good vision.

What you'll be doing
As an Enrolled Nurse Vision Screener,



you’ll use your nursing skills and clinical judgement to deliver vision screening and accurately document outcomes, working within your scope of practice and under the direction of a Registered Nurse/Midwife.

- Undertake vision screening and recognise normal and abnormal observations

- Assess children, identify clinical variations and escalate concerns appropriately

- Accurately document screening results and care in clinical records

- Communicate sensitively with children, families and preschool service providers

- Maintain knowledge of the StEPS Program, equipment and relevant NSW Health policies

Essential Criteria

- Registration: Current enrolment with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as Enrolled Nurse Division 2

Selection Criteria

1. Demonstrated recent and relevant skills and experience, including with children

2. Proven effective and open communication skills both written and verbal, that build greater cooperation and confidence in care delivery.

3. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment with a focus on delivering organised and prioritised care,



in order to achieve the most effective and efficient outcomes for the patient.

4. Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to utilise information technology systems within a variety of applications and a commitment to undertaking training in electronic health record systems.

5. Demonstrated critical thinking abilities, prioritisation and escalation, whilst effectively following directions

6. Commitment to continuing professional development.

7. Current Driver’s Licence Class C and willingness to use for work purposes
