Position Overview

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide centre-based support to women who are experiencing domestic and family violence.

Assistance is provided in the form of crisis intervention, including information and advice, referrals, and practical assistance. Engagement occurs within the centre on a voluntary basis.

This is a fast-paced environment that requires a person with a high level of flexibility, excellent communication and the ability to multi-task.

Qualifications & Experience

- A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Human Services is preferred.

- A Blue Card (authorisation by the Commission for Children & Young People to work under 18 year olds) is required.

- Willingness to undergo a Police Check is required.

- Current drivers license is required.

Selection Criteria

- Demonstrate a high level of written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to advocate on behalf of clients, work collaboratively, and manage competing demands effectively.

- Working knowledge of guidelines or statutory requirements relevant to domestic and family violence work.

- Demonstrated skills in providing client centred support to women and their children experiencing homelessness and/or domestic and family violence.

- Demonstrated understanding of the effects and causes of domestic violence, including knowledge of cultural differences and needs of First Nations Women.

Tasks & Responsibilities





- Answering phone calls and responding to clients' immediate needs.

- Providing crisis support to women who present to the service.

- Following up with current referrals received from other services.

- Conducting comprehensive risk and safety assessments, working closely with victim-survivors to assess their level of risk and develop tailored safety plans.

- Offering culturally appropriate crisis support, including providing domestic violence information and advice, completing referrals, and advocating for the women you are working with.

- Maintaining accurate, confidential records of client interactions, including case notes, safety plans, and statistical data.

- Performing administrative tasks and assisting with the general operations of the service.

- Monday - Friday: 9am-5pm (negotiable)
