Employer Description:
We are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity for an experienced farm hand to join our client's mixed farming operation. We are looking for someone with solid cropping and sheep experience, with a preference for those with a passion for sheep.
The property features a modern fleet of John Deere machinery and practices controlled-traffic farming across an expansive 2,600 hectares. All cropping operations are handled in-house, with occasional collaboration with contract sprayers to enhance efficiency. The primary focus is on producing high-quality wool and prime lamb alongside the strategic acquisition of trade lambs. Additionally, they dedicate approximately 400 to 500 hectares to growing fodder specifically for livestock grazing.
The operation includes a self-replacing flock of around 1,500 ewes for the production of prime lambs and 2,200 hectares dedicated to continuous cropping. Our clients are committed to sustainable farming practices, utilising advanced equipment, and implementing strategic crop rotations for pest and disease management.
Position Overview:
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include operating machinery for sowing, harvesting, fertiliser spreading, and spraying. Additionally, livestock management tasks will involve lamb marking, vaccinating, backlinking, drenching, and feeding. Other duties will cover general farm maintenance and servicing, local truck driving (for applicants with a valid license), and grain handling.
You will work closely with the young owner and may also collaborate with casual labourers during peak seasons,
such as harvest and lamb marking.
The position involves occasional travel to a secondary cropping location located 170 kilometres towards Griffith. During these visits, all meals and accommodations will be provided for the employee.
The Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who shows initiative and can work effectively both within a team and independently. This person should have solid problem-solving skills and excellent time-management abilities.
While candidates with their own working dogs are highly valued, it is not a requirement to apply.
The Offer:
The successful applicant will be provided with a comfortable four-bedroom house which includes access to mains water, multiple school bus routes, and main road access; a work ute is also provided for on-farm use. The position offers a competitive hourly rate, along with potential bonuses, and the management is open to discussing a salary arrangement if the candidate prefers it.
