Business Intelligence Analyst
ProVision - Mulgrave, VIC
Full-time - Hybrid working
Good business intelligence does more than explain what happened. It helps independent businesses decide what to do next.
ProVision supports a network of independent optometry practices across Australia. Through ProIntel, our business intelligence and benchmarking platform, we help practice owners, Business Coaches and internal teams turn complex data into clearer insights and better-informed decisions.
We’re looking for an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst to take ownership of the reliability, accuracy and continued development of ProIntel, balancing day-to-day platform operations with reporting improvements and new analytics projects.
This is a hands-on and highly collaborative role. You’ll need strong Power BI and SQL capability, along with the communication skills to understand business needs, explain complex information clearly and build effective relationships with both ProVision team members and independent practice owners.
The role
Your work will include:
- Administering Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environments, including workspaces, access, refreshes and row-level security
- Developing reports, dashboards, DAX measures and semantic models
- Maintaining SQL-based data models, ETL processes, API connections and scheduled data loads
- Managing monthly benchmarking, reconciling practice data and resolving data-quality issues
- Translating business requirements into practical reporting and analytics solutions
- Coordinating external development work and supporting testing and implementation
- Maintaining data governance, technical documentation and well-structured datasets for future analytics and AI initiatives
What you’ll bring
You’ll bring at least five years’ experience in a similar business intelligence or data analytics role within a medium to large organisation,
including strong practical capability in Power BI and SQL.
You’ll also need the analytical judgement to question the data, investigate the cause of an issue and determine whether the answer makes sense, not simply whether the report refreshes successfully.
We’re looking for:
- Strong Power BI capability, including DAX, Power Query, semantic modelling and row-level security
- Solid SQL Server and T-SQL capability
- Experience with ETL processes, data pipelines and data warehouse structures
- The ability to investigate data issues and deliver accurate, defensible reporting
- Strong stakeholder communication and the ability to explain technical information clearly
- A structured approach to requirements gathering, testing, documentation and project delivery
Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure or AWS analytics services, API integrations, Python or R, AI data preparation, privacy obligations or the Essential Eight will be highly regarded.
Relevant tertiary qualifications or industry certifications will also be well regarded but are not essential where equivalent practical experience can be demonstrated.
Why ProVision?
At ProVision, the work has a visible connection to the businesses we support. The reports, benchmarking measures and insights you develop will be used by independent practice owners to understand performance, identify opportunities and make decisions about their future.
You’ll join a collaborative Business Systems team, work across established and emerging technologies, and have the opportunity to influence how ProVision develops its analytics and AI capabilities.
You’ll also have access to:
- A hybrid working arrangement, typically including three days in our Mulgrave office and two days from home
- On-site parking
- An Employee Assistance Program
If you want to own more than a dashboard, and see your analysis put to work across a national network of independent businesses, this is where the numbers start to mean something.
