Doral Mineral Sands Pty Ltd (DMS), has well established heavy mineral sands mining and processing facilities near Bunbury, Busselton and Mandurah in the Southwest of WA. As part of the company's growth strategy, we are looking to broaden our mineral sands operations within the Gascoyne region of WA.

The Mine Manager reports to the operations manager and holds overall accountability for leading a team of multi-disciplinary reports to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable operations. This includes overseeing all contractor mining activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory and environmental obligations, and delivering against production and financial targets. The role is both operational and strategic, requiring an ability to manage immediate site priorities whilst also contributing to long term planning and optimisation of the mine.
The Mine manager will provide solid leadership and ensure they foster a culture of high performance focussed on safety, accountability and continuous improvement. This role is critical to driving operational excellence and plays a significant part on the broader business by delivering sustainable resource recovery, cost effective operations and positive environmental and community outcomes.
- Oversee and Manage the mine planning activities including mining preparation, mining,
sand/clay tailing disposal and rehabilitation activities.
- Foster a strong proactive safety culture and ensure compliance with all site safety, health, environmental and community standards.
- Ensure all statutory obligations are met in accordance with Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations
- Lead incident investigations, audits and inspections as the site's senior operation representative.
- Ensure the plans are cost effective and optimised to maximise profit and achieve product quality targets.
- Communicate plans to ensure service, production and/or contract personnel are informed, with sufficient notice, of their role in the plan implementation.
- Collaborate with technical services to optimise mining plans, schedules and resource recovery.
- Manage the preparation of mining budgets as required, including all earthmoving expenditure, to ensure optimal balance between cost and benefits
- Manage the development and maintenance of the life of mine plans including monitor contractor performance and contract compliance
- Manage the site mining activities such that ore is presented to the hopper at the optimum rate and quality to enable HMC production and quality targets to be reached or exceeded and that high safety and environmental standards are met.
- Functionally manage and provide support for the Feed Preparation and Concentrating activities.
- Manage the impact of mining / blending regimes on the process (FPP and Concentrator)
- Provide input into production personnel on mining method / blends as necessary.
- Manage all geological, mining engineering and surveying activities.
- Support development and execution of rehabilitation and environmental compliance commitments.
- Ensure that day to day decisions are based with a total business outlook to ensure effective decisions are made
- Foster a climate of continuous improvement in the mining and production function so that either costs are reducing or revenue is increasing.
- Cultivate a collaborative working relationship with contractors
- Initiate and implement mining improvements ensuring that suitable expertise is sourced where necessary.
Skills/Education/Technical Knowledge
- Degree / diploma in surface mining.
- Must hold Quarry Manager’s Certificate.
- SSE Certificate
- Minimum 8 years' experience in mining operations with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Mineral Sands Experience - highly desirable
- Demonstrated experience managing mining contractors and holding them accountable to targets and statutory compliance
- Sounds knowledge of mine planning. operational efficiency, cost control and safety systems
- Demonstrated leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Sound knowledge of mining, concentrating and mine rehabilitation.
- Ability to delegate and source functional skills from different departments.
