Help Shape the Future of Water in Western Victoria

GWMWater is seeking expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to join our Board as an Independent Aboriginal Delegate.

This is a unique opportunity to bring your voice, knowledge, experience and perspectives to strategic discussions that influence the management of water, waterways and essential services across western Victoria.

In this role, you will actively participate in Board meetings, contribute insights and perspectives, and help strengthen the Board's understanding of Aboriginal values, aspirations and connections to Country. The role provides valuable governance experience and supports the development of future Aboriginal leaders within Victoria's water sector.

About the Role

The Independent Aboriginal Delegate:

- Participates in Board meetings and strategic discussions.
- Provides an independent Aboriginal perspective on matters considered by the Board.
- Contributes insights regarding Aboriginal values, culture, Country, community and water management.
- Supports improved decision-making through diverse perspectives and lived experience.

The delegate participates fully in discussions but does not hold voting rights and is not appointed as a statutory Board Director.

Who We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Victoria who are passionate about making a positive difference for communities, Country and the future of the water sector.

You may bring experience in areas such as:

- Community leadership and advocacy
- Aboriginal cultural knowledge and connection to Country
- Governance or committee participation
- Environmental or natural resource management
- Business,



finance or strategic planning
- Community engagement and partnerships
- Water, agriculture, land management or sustainability

Previous Board experience is welcomed but not essential.

This role does not replace engagement with Traditional Owner organisations or Aboriginal communities. Rather, it provides an additional Aboriginal perspective within Board discussions and decision-making processes.

Position Details

- Fixed-term appointment (up to two years)
- Board meetings are generally held monthly
- Flexible arrangements available to support participation
- Applicants must be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person living in Victoria
