St James College is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Cultural Liaison Officer (African) to support the engagement, wellbeing and educational success of students from African backgrounds. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about education, cultural advocacy and building strong relationships with students, families and the wider community.
This is a full-time ongoing role working as part of the Cultural team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist with the planning and delivery of effective cultural programs for students including using resources, technology and learning support activities
- Provide significant support to students with cultural needs in order to improve learning outcomes, to increase engagement and awareness of other students.
- Monitor the progress of students from African cultural backgrounds and identify and assist with learning area requirements (including cultural advice when developing teaching programs)
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure appropriate support services are available for students from African cultural backgrounds, to assist with the enrolment of students from African cultural backgrounds and inform staff of any issues relating to these students enrolled at the College
- Promote the inclusion of African Nation celebrations and dates of recognition within the College
- Extensive work with stakeholders to provide practical assistance for students from African cultural backgrounds and their families
- Assist with the production of articles and newsletter updates for the College community
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Identifies as being from one or more countries of Africa.
- Has a deep understanding of African cultures, histories and communities.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Has experience working with young people, families or community organisations (experience in education is desirable).
- Is committed to inclusion, respect, diversity and the values of Edmund Rice Education Australia.
- Holds or is eligible to obtain a current Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
