We are seeking a part-time (15 hours per week) Customer Service Digital Literacy Officer for the Library, for a fixed-term contract (October 2026 - June 2027). The position will contribute to exceptional customer service, as a frontline interface for library technologies and access to services and information.

What does this Position do?
The role of the Library Customer Service Officer supports the functions of the Port Lincoln Library providing a welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable customer service role to library customers and user groups.
The role supports customers gain access to information, resources, and library services in a positive, efficient and effective manner in accordance with policies, standards and procedures of the Port Lincoln Library and the SA Public Libraries Network.
You will assist customers with enquires, deliver all aspects of library circulation processes, and ensure the library is well presented at all times. This role may also assist with set up and support for library programs, as required
Out of hours work will be a requirement of this position including weekends.
Key Objectives
- Supporting the delivery of digital literacy programs and activities for the community to deliver on Library Services strategic priorities and activation.
- Contribute to the delivery of a next generation library service that is recognised as a centre of excellence for literacy, learning, innovation and discovery.
- Deliver an exceptional customer experience, as a frontline interface for library technologies and access to services and information.
- Deliver quality lifelong learning, literacy and recreation programs
- Support and participate in the Port Lincoln Library outreach service
- Deliver IT and Digital Literacy support to individuals and groups
- Administer and process library memberships to enable customer access to resources, services available through the One Card network
- Actively participate in daily library circulation duties
- Deliver readers’ advisory support
- Availability to work Sundays in line with the roster
- Maintaining a safe environment - Reporting of incidents, near miss, injuries, property damage and identified hazards
- Take reasonable care to protect their own safety and the health and safety of others
- Follow reasonable instruction on health and safety and injury management
- Actively participate in training and WHS programs as required
WHS and Compliance
Comply with WHS obligations under the Work Health & Safety Act 2012 by taking reasonable care for own and others’ safety, following instructions and procedures, and reporting hazards and incidents. Undertake responsibilities as identified within the Council’s WHS Roles and Responsibilities Register.
Key responsibilities:
- Follow protected work procedures and use equipment correctly
- Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly
- Participate in WHS training and consultation activities
- Assist in the delivery of digital literacy programs, including scheduling, facilitation, evaluation and required reporting.
- Assist with the digitisation and cataloguing of local history records for the purpose of developing the collection and making accessible and available online through the Libraries SA local history platform.
- Proactively engage, communicate, and interact with library customers, responding to enquiries and supporting access to library resources and services in a professional, inclusive and timely manner.
- Any other duties within the scope of the role as reasonably directed.
Essential Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Current drivers’ licence
- A non-prohibited Working with Children Check is essential for this role (cost to be borne by Council for the successful applicant)
- Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service
- High level interpersonal and communication skills, ability to remain calm under pressure
- Possess a high level of literacy and numeracy skills
- Broad knowledge and awareness of reading and literature
- Proficiency in the use of information technology and software, sound working knowledge of digital technologies and ability to assist customers in using technologies and devices
- Demonstrated time management and organisational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and as a part of a team
- An ability to be flexible and demonstrate enjoyment in an innovative environment of significant change.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment to the role libraries play in supporting all forms of literacy and lifelong learning
- Enthusiastic attitude toward new technology and processes, with the ability to learn and a willingness to support and teach others
- Proven experience/demonstrated ability to provide high level customer service - counter, telephone and electronic
Highly regarded but not essential
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Successful completion of SACE or equivalent
- Experience working in a public library environment
- Awareness of working with vulnerable people practices and principles

- Library resources are processed efficiently and with high quality handling
- Library services are facilitated in a professional, friendly and informed manner
