About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Fitter and Turner. In this role, you will be responsible for using a lathe and milling machine to machine, repair, and maintain rail components, with a robust focus on wheelsets and associated assemblies. You will carry out precision machining, ensure components meet strict industry tolerances, and support the refurbishment and reconditioning of railway wheels and parts.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines to machine and recondition rail components, including wheelsets and associated parts.

- Repair and refurbish railway wheels to required profiles and tolerances.

- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure accurate machining.

- Be able to MIG Weld.

- Conduct inspections, measurements, and quality checks using precision measuring instruments.





- Perform routine maintenance on workshop machinery and tooling.

- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with rail industry standards and procedures.

About You

We are looking for an individual that can work independently with a positive can-do attitude with:

- Proven experience operating manual lathes and milling machines.

- Strong understanding of machining practices, tolerances, and surface finishes.

- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.

- Solid attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

- Valuable communication skills and ability to work effectively in a small team.
