The City of Kalamunda is seeking an experienced Supervisor Horticulture to join our Engineering and Parks Maintenance team. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you will coordinate people, resources and maintenance programs to help ensure the City’s public spaces are safe, attractive and well maintained.

The City of Kalamunda is a local authority with a population of 60,000 located approximately a 35-minute drive from the Perth CBD. The City provides the opportunity to work in a diverse setting from rural, natural bushland to highly developed residential, commercial and industrial areas.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator Parks Operations, you will support the effective and efficient maintenance of Kalamunda’s parks and streetscapes and contribute to the management of the City’s parks and environmental assets.

You will lead staff and contractors, coordinate horticultural maintenance activities and works programs, respond to customer and operational requirements, and support the delivery of safe and high-quality services across the community.

In this role, you will:

- Develop and implement programs to rehabilitate, maintain and protect parks and environmental assets.
- Coordinate horticultural activities in accordance with cyclical maintenance schedules and prepare and deliver works programs.
- Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to staff and ensure employees are inducted, trained and developed.
- Allocate tasks and manage resources to effectively deliver organisational goals and objectives.
- Supervise contractors to ensure safety compliance and completion of works.
- Assist with briefing papers, reports, tender documents, business plans and strategic documents.
- Respond to customer requests and provide high-quality advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve service delivery and horticultural maintenance practices.




- Be available for emergency call-outs as required.

About You

You are an experienced horticultural professional who understands what it takes to maintain high-quality parks, streetscapes and environmental assets while leading people in a busy operational environment.

You are confident coordinating staff, contractors, works programs and competing priorities, and you bring a practical approach to problem-solving and service delivery. You communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and can balance operational requirements with the expectations of the community.

You will be comfortable taking ownership, supporting and developing your team, and responding flexibly when operational or emergency situations arise.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Tertiary qualification in Horticulture and/or Turf management (essential)
- Construction White Card (WA) (essential)
- Basic Worksite Traffic Management ticket (desirable)
- Experience in and understanding of community engagement (desirable)
- Arboriculture qualification (desirable)
- Frontline Management (desirable)

Selection Criteria

1. Extensive knowledge and experience in amenity horticultural maintenance practices and programs.
2. Previous experience in a similar role within local government or a similar environment.
3. Proven skills in contract, budget and staff management and project delivery.
4. Highly developed interpersonal skills, negotiation, conflict resolution and the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
5. Demonstrated high level organisational and administration skills with the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters appropriately.
6. Well-developed written skills including the ability to undertake research, develop proposals, write technical specifications, operational plans, schedules, scoping documents and submissions.
7.



Ability to establish effective working relationships and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
8. Proven skills in high-quality customer service in a local government environment.
9. Proven ability to effectively manage time and resources to meet deadlines under competing priorities and ensure delivery of a high-level service to the community.
10. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise good judgement and initiative when required.
11. Ability to use personal computer applications, including Microsoft Office Applications such as outlook, excel and Word.

Hours of Work

This is a permanent full-time position working Monday to Friday, 75 hours per fortnight. Flexible work options are available, including a 9-day fortnight or flexitime.

About the Benefits

The salary range for this position is $93,063 - $100,087 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) plus superannuation. Other inclusions are annual increments, annual salary increases, a generous superannuation co-contribution scheme and 22 days annual leave which attracts 17.5% loading. We also offer flexible work arrangements or the option for a rostered day off fortnightly or monthly.
