Our client is one of the largest poultry processors in the state of Queensland and a leading exporter of premium Australian poultry. The business produces, markets, and distributes a range of fresh and frozen poultry products to customers throughout Queensland, Australia and the international markets.

The business operates a vertically integrated supply chain which produces the highest quality Australian poultry through the control of each aspect of the business including feed mills, hatcheries, farms, processing plants and distribution.

The business’ processing and packing facilities rely on highly specialised processing plant and equipment to maintain efficient, safe and reliable processing operations. In your role as a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will work as part of the maintenance and engineering team, supporting the reliability, performance and continuous improvement of our mechanical plant and equipment.

You will ensure our processing and packing plant and infrastructure is maintained in excellent working order to support production targets. You will ensure operations are completed safely, accurately, in a timely manner and in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

- Inspect, test and assess automated processing and packing machinery to identify mechanical faults, performance issues and potential equipment failures.
- Assist with the installation, assembly, modification and commissioning of new mechanical equipment, components and production machinery.




- Supervise and organise preventative maintenance programs and coordinate maintenance activities to improve plant reliability and equipment availability.
- Investigate equipment breakdowns, analyse root cause and implement appropriate solutions to minimise the frequency and duration of breakdowns.
- Collect and review machinery inspection findings and maintenance histories to identify reliability improvement opportunities.
- Identify mechanical system bottlenecks through analysis and support the development of design changes to improve production workflow.
- Work with the maintenance team to assess equipment condition and determine replacement components and materials needed for planned works.
- Assist with testing, diagnosis and maintenance of hydraulic, mechanical and machine control systems associated with processing and packing equipment.
- Monitor completed maintenance and repair works to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, technical documentation and reports relating to equipment performance and maintenance activities.
- Communicate equipment maintenance requirements and technical findings to Supervisors, Managers and other members of the maintenance and engineering team.




- Participate in Saturday maintenance activities as required under the roster.
- Ensure all work complies with workplace health and safety, food quality and internal operational requirements.

Skills & Experience

- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or proven skills in these areas.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, manufacturing or processing environments.
- Strong practical experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, servicing and repairing industrial plant and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to inspect mechanical systems, identify faults and assess equipment performance.
- Experience with mechanical assemblies, machinery components, conveyors, pumps, drives and associated plant equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, equipment specifications and maintenance documentation.
- Understanding of preventative maintenance principles and equipment reliability improvement.
- Experience assisting with machinery installation, modification, testing or commissioning will be highly regarded.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess equipment issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a maintenance and engineering team.
- Reliable and able to work with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.

Salary & Benefits

- $90,000 - $105,000 per year plus superannuation
- Full time employment
