As an Air Surveillance Operator with Omni, you will contribute to airborne maritime surveillance operations that help protect sovereign waters, combat illegal activities and support maritime safety and security throughout the region.
Working alongside skilled aviation professionals and operational stakeholders, you will play a critical role in mission planning, surveillance operations and intelligence gathering, delivering meaningful outcomes that support regional stability and security.
About The Role The Air Surveillance Operator is responsible for supporting the execution of airborne surveillance missions through the operation of mission systems, observation and reporting activities, and coordination with aviation and operational teams.
You will operate in a dynamic environment where professionalism, sound judgement and adaptability are essential. The role requires a strong commitment to operational excellence, aviation safety and supporting mission objectives across diverse operating conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of maritime surveillance missions.
- Operate surveillance and mission systems during airborne operations.
- Monitor, assess and report information obtained through surveillance activities.
- Support real-time mission decision making through accurate observation and reporting.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with flight crews, mission supervisors and operational stakeholders.
- Assist with mission tasking, operational coordination and mission reporting requirements.
- Participate in pre-flight preparation, mission briefings and post-flight debrief activities.
- Ensure compliance with aviation safety standards, operational procedures and security requirements.
- Support the testing, maintenance and serviceability of mission equipment and systems.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and ongoing operational readiness through training and development activities.

Essential Requirements
- Australian Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance.
- Experience in aviation, surveillance, maritime operations, defence, emergency services or a related operational environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- High levels of professionalism, integrity and accountability.
- Willingness to travel and work in deployed or remote operating locations as required.
- Not susceptible to motion sickness
- Acceptable level of health and fitness in accordance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority medical standards, and the ability to swim.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Air Search Observer qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience operating surveillance, sensor or mission management systems.
- Previous maritime surveillance, reconnaissance or intelligence experience.
- Defence, law enforcement, border security or military aviation background.
- Experience working within international or multinational operational environments.
- Certificate III or IV Aviation qualifications or equivalent.
