SkyDB is seeking an experienced Senior Backend & AI Software Engineer for an exciting long-term opportunity supporting an Australian Government agency. You’ll join a multidisciplinary AI-focused engineering team, working alongside software developers, data scientists, machine learning engineers, business analysts and subject matter experts to build innovative, production-ready software solutions.
This is a particularly solid opportunity for a Python/AWS backend engineer who has experience with serverless architecture, DevOps practices and an interest in AI, Machine Learning and MLOps.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design, build and maintain production software using Python and AWS
- Develop serverless applications and cloud-native backend services
- Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code, preferably using AWS CDK
- Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines, including AWS CodePipeline
- Work closely with Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers
- Develop Proofs of Concept using emerging technologies
- Help transition innovative concepts into reliable production capabilities
- Maintain and continuously improve existing production systems
- Contribute to code quality, engineering practices and technical documentation
- Support the responsible application of AI and emerging technologies
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary Agile delivery teams
Core Technical ExperienceWe’re looking for strong commercial experience across:
Essential
- Python
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- AWS serverless application development
- Infrastructure-as-Code, ideally AWS CDK
- DevOps and CI/CD
- AWS CodePipeline or similar CI/CD tooling
- Agile software development
- Production software engineering
What We’re Looking ForYou’ll ideally be a senior software engineer who can work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary environment. Government experience is particularly valuable, with the evaluation placing emphasis on:
35% – AWS experience
35% – Python software development
20% – DevOps tools and practices
10% – Government multidisciplinary software delivery experience
Security RequirementCandidates must be capable of obtaining an Australian Baseline Security Clearance.
