Where You'll Be Working

Join the dynamic team at John Hunter Hospital Emergency Department, one of Australia’s busiest mixed Adult and Paediatric Tertiary Referral Centres and the only Trauma Referral Centre in NSW outside Sydney.

Caring for more than 85,000 presentations each year, our Emergency Department provides high-level care across Adult and Paediatric Resuscitation and Trauma, Acute Adult, Paediatrics, Rapid Track and the Emergency Short Stay Unit (ESSU). Our team manages a diverse range of presentations, including major trauma, neurological and neurosurgical emergencies, orthopaedics, cardiology, cardiothoracic care and paediatric and adolescent mental health.

This is an exciting time to join John Hunter Hospital, with the new Health and Innovation Precinct delivering a state-of-the-art Emergency Department and supporting the future of emergency care across the Hunter Region.

You'll become part of a highly skilled, collaborative team where communication, teamwork and quality patient care are at the centre of everything we do.

About The Role

As a Technical Assistant, you'll play an important hands-on role in supporting the delivery of patient care within our busy Emergency Department.

Working Alongside Experienced Clinical Staff, Your Responsibilities Will Include

- Intravenous cannula insertion and venepuncture
- Pathology specimen collection
- Recording electrocardiographs (ECGs)



and general observations
- Respiratory protective mask fit testing for staff
- Replenishing clinical stock and supplies
- Providing practical support to help keep the Emergency Department running efficiently

This is a varied and fast-paced position where strong communication, organisation and the ability to prioritise competing demands will be essential.

About You

We're looking for a flexible, reliable and team-focused individual who thrives in a busy clinical workplace and is committed to supporting high-quality patient care.

You'll bring excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage a demanding workload and confidence working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team. You'll be adaptable, organised and able to remain focused when priorities change quickly.

Support And Development

You'll be well supported as you settle into the role. Initial education will include training in the required technical tasks, followed by dedicated supernumerary time working alongside an experienced mentor.

You'll also have access to ongoing guidance and support from our highly qualified Clinical Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Unit Managers and Clinical Nurse Specialists, helping you develop your skills and maintain the highest standards of clinical practice.
