Role Description The Leading Hand Electrician is a full-time, on-site role based in Mackay, QLD, responsible for supervising and performing electrical maintenance and installation work on rail and transport-related assets. Day-to-day tasks include leading a team of electricians, allocating work, overseeing protected work practices, and ensuring all electrical activities comply with relevant standards and regulations. The role involves diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment and systems, coordinating with supervisors and other trades, and maintaining accurate records of work completed.

Electrician will also support continuous improvement initiatives, contribute to project planning, and promote a strong safety and quality culture on site.

Qualifications

- Recognized Electrical trade qualification and current electrical license, with demonstrated experience in industrial or transport-related electrical work.
- Proficiency in electrical fault finding, maintenance, and installation on complex systems, ideally including rail infrastructure, rolling stock, signaling, or communications equipment.
- Strong leadership and team supervision capabilities, including task allocation, mentoring, and promoting safe work behaviors.
- Solid understanding of electrical safety regulations, risk management, and compliance with relevant standards and procedures.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation, and use diagnostic tools and equipment effectively.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Willingness to work on-site in Mackay, QLD, with flexibility for shift work or overtime as required.
- Experience in the rail or broader transport sector, and familiarity with asset management or maintenance management systems, is highly regarded.
