Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced nurses to join the Specialist Clinics team as a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Projects.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:
Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Projects provides advanced clinical leadership and expert nursing support within Specialist Clinics. Working collaboratively with medical, nursing, allied health and administrative teams, the CNC will undertake the standard responsibilities of the role while also supporting the implementation, coordination and evaluation of service improvement projects.

This role is Part Time, Fixed Term until June 2027.

Key responsibilities include:

- Clinical Leadership & Advanced Practice: Providing expert clinical assessment, consultation and nursing leadership within Specialist Clinics. Supporting evidence-based clinical decision-making, acting as a specialist resource for staff and contributing to safe, timely and high-quality patient care.
- Care Coordination & Patient Management: Supporting effective patient pathways, clinical triage, prioritisation, care coordination and patient education as required within the service. Contributing to improved access, patient flow and coordination of care across relevant clinical services.
- Education & Professional Development: Providing formal and informal education, clinical supervision and mentoring to nursing and multidisciplinary staff.



Supporting the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, pathways, education resources and other initiatives that promote consistent practice.
- Research, Quality & Service Improvement: Leading and participating in audit, quality improvement, service redesign and research activities. Monitoring key performance indicators and supporting evidence-based practice, patient safety and continuous improvement within Specialist Clinics.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Working closely with medical, nursing, allied health, administrative and operational teams to improve patient outcomes, service access and operational efficiency. Building effective relationships with stakeholders and supporting engagement with changes to models of care and service processes.
- Project Implementation & Coordination: Coordinating project activities, monitoring milestones and deliverables, contributing to project documentation and reporting, collecting and reviewing data, identifying and escalating risks and barriers, supporting implementation across relevant clinical areas, and contributing to the sustainability and embedding of project outcomes into business-as-usual practice.

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Clinical Expertise: Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, minimum five (5) years post-registration nursing experience and a relevant postgraduate qualification. Experience in a specialist clinical environment is highly desirable.
- Leadership & Service Development: Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership, manage competing priorities, contribute to service development and improvement, and support the implementation of new models of care.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and engage confidently with patients, families, medical staff and a broad range of multidisciplinary and operational stakeholders.
- Education & Research: Experience providing formal and informal education, mentoring staff and participating in research, audit and quality improvement activities.
- Project & Change Management:



Demonstrated experience contributing to or leading projects, service improvement initiatives or change processes, with the ability to coordinate activities, manage timelines and deliverables, identify barriers and support implementation and evaluation. Experience working with project plans, data and reporting requirements is highly desirable.
- Digital Literacy & Data Management: Highly developed ICT skills and experience using electronic medical records, outpatient management systems, Microsoft Office and clinical or service data to support service delivery, project implementation, evaluation and reporting.
- Team Collaboration & Adaptability: Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team while also working autonomously in an advanced practice role.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: Ability to respond to changing service demands, manage competing priorities and adapt to emerging project and operational requirements across multiple clinical settings.
