The Opportunity
HarperLloyd Recruitment is partnering with a leading global legal and insurance services business seeking a Senior Associate to join its Sydney General Insurance team.
The role will focus on medical defence, health liability and related regulatory matters, providing the successful lawyer with exposure to sophisticated litigated and non-litigated files for major insurers, health practitioners and healthcare organisations.
This is a strong opportunity for an experienced defendant insurance lawyer who wants to combine quality medical negligence work with the resources, technology and international reach of a genuinely global platform.
The Role
Working closely with senior fee earners, the successful lawyer will manage and support a portfolio of complex matters including:
- Medical malpractice and medical negligence claims;
- Health liability disputes;
- Regulatory and disciplinary matters;
- Complex personal injury and liability claims;
- Litigated and non-litigated files;
- Liability, causation and quantum analysis;
- Review of medical records, clinical material and expert evidence;
- Pleadings, court documents and settlement documentation;
- Counsel and expert briefs;
- Settlement negotiations and mediations;
- Regulatory proceedings; and
- Strategic claims and reserve advice.
The role also involves direct engagement with insurers, insured medical practitioners, healthcare organisations, counsel, experts, regulators and opposing parties.
About You
Applications are encouraged from experienced defendant insurance lawyers with approximately 4+ years' PAE.
Ideally, candidates will have:
- Strong defendant insurance litigation experience;
- Exposure to medical negligence, medical malpractice, health liability or personal injury matters;
- Experience advising insurers and insured professionals;
- Strong knowledge of liability, causation and quantum;
- Sound litigation and case management capability;
- Strong drafting and analytical skills;
- Confidence managing files with appropriate autonomy;
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills; and
- A commercially focused and pragmatic approach.
Experience advising hospitals, medical practitioners, allied health professionals or healthcare organisations would be particularly valuable.
