About the role

The Business Development Coordinator is responsible for leading the growth, development and value proposition of Business Singleton. The role will develop and implement membership, business development, stakeholder engagement, partnership, sponsorship, funding and member-service strategies that support the organisation's purpose and strategic priorities. The position will build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective members, local businesses, government, local government, community organisations and strategic partners. It will identify opportunities to grow membership, generate revenue, improve member services and strengthen Business Singleton's contribution to the local business community.

Key responsibilities

- Develop and implement the Membership Action Plan to grow and retain membership through structured business development, referrals, networking and relationship management; maintain a explicit membership value proposition; oversee the complete member lifecycle from enquiry and application through onboarding, engagement, renewal and follow-up; monitor membership trends, risks and emerging needs; advocate for member interests; and ensure the effective delivery and continuous improvement of member services and benefits.

- Identify member needs through feedback, surveys, business trends and local economic conditions; develop and coordinate relevant workshops, seminars, training and capability-building programs; create opportunities for member connection, collaboration and knowledge sharing; evaluate participation, satisfaction and outcomes; and recommend improvements to the Board of Directors.

- Develop the annual networking and events program. Lead the planning and delivery of monthly breakfasts, luncheons, networking events and other activities.



Define the purpose, target audience and desired outcomes for each event. Coordinate speakers, partners and sponsors, and ensure participants are followed up.

- Develop and implement a partnership and sponsorship action plan with the Board; identify, approach and build relationships with potential business, government, community and organisational partners; prepare proposals for Board consideration; manage approved partnerships and sponsorships to deliver agreed benefits; develop collaborative initiatives that support local businesses and the Singleton community.

- Promote Business Singleton's non-membership services, including co-working and meeting facilities, Spend in Singleton, events, training and the Annual Business Awards. Conduct market research and identify emerging business needs. Develop recommendations and business cases for new services, participation opportunities and revenue streams.

- Create and maintain a Communications Action Plan that sets priorities and guides the Communication & Operations Coordinator. Oversee all communications—including newsletters, campaigns, websites, social media and event promotion—ensuring messaging reflects Business Singleton's purpose, services and priorities while supporting membership growth and engagement.

- Develop project plans for approved initiatives, including objectives, milestones, responsibilities, budgets, risks and intended outcomes.



Identify grants and funding opportunities, support applications and monitor funded projects. Prepare the monthly Board report, support the AGM, maintain action tracking and ensure Board decisions are translated into work plans.

- Set priorities and provide directions to the Communication and Operation Coordinator in relation to approved activities. Coordinate workloads, avoid duplication and support consistent delivery. Provide feedback, identify resourcing or performance issues and escalate matters to the President when appropriate.

About you

- Qualification in Community engagement, marketing, business administration, business development or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

- Experience in membership development, business development, community engagement, stakeholder relations or a related role.

- Experience developing and implementing action plans, projects or programs.

- Experience building relationships with businesses, government, community organisations or strategic partners.

- Experience coordinating events, workshops, seminars or networking activities.

- Experience preparing reports, analysing data and presenting recommendations to a committee, board or senior stakeholders.

- Experience using CRM systems, databases and communication platforms.

- Strong relationship-building, networking and stakeholder engagement skills.

- Demonstrated ability to identify and convert business development opportunities.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
