We're looking for a motivated STM Mechanical to join our Kananook Depot team in a permanent, full time role.

About the Role

In this role, you'll undertake a variety of mechanical maintenance, servicing and repair activities across Metro's train fleet, contributing to the safe, reliable and efficient operation of Melbourne's rail network.

Key Responsibilities

- Follow all relevant safety procedures and contribute to a strong safety culture.
- Carry out train examinations and inspections in accordance with maintenance requirements.
- Perform train modifications as required.
- Service and maintain fleet rotating machinery and associated equipment.
- Inspect, maintain and repair fleet air and brake systems, couplers and associated electrical equipment to ensure safe and reliable fleet operation.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised depot work environment.




- Perform all duties in accordance with Metro's Quality Management System.
- Replace and overhaul major fleet components as required.
- Participate in multi-skilled training and undertake tasks for which you are trained and deemed competent.
- Respond to operational incidents, including derailments, collisions, pantograph entanglements, fatalities and other train-related incidents as required.
- Accurately record and report all maintenance activities and work performed.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Mandatory

- AQF Certificate III in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) MEM30219
- Experience in mechanical maintenance, fault finding and repair within an industrial, manufacturing, transport or similar environment.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality in a safety-critical workplace.
- Ability to inspect, maintain and overhaul mechanical systems and equipment.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and public holidays as required.
- Current Driver's Licence.

Desirable

- Experience in the rail, rolling stock, transport, manufacturing or heavy maintenance industries.
- Knowledge of air brake systems, rotating machinery and fleet equipment maintenance.
- Experience working within a Quality Management System and responding to operational incidents.
