The Building Maintenance team manages Council buildings to ensure that they are safe, compliant, and well maintained. The team works with contractors and internal staff to deliver reliable services.
About the role
Join our Building Management team and play an important role in keeping Council’s facilities safe, functional and operating at their best.
As a Building Management Officer, you will support the day-to-day management of building services, equipment and technical infrastructure across a diverse range of municipal facilities, including the Cheltenham and Mentone Municipal Offices, depots, Council Hubs and other tenanted properties across the City of Kingston.
Based at the Cheltenham Municipal Office, you will work alongside the Senior Building Operations Officer, your fellow building management officers and a range of internal teams, contractors and service providers to ensure our buildings are well maintained, compliant and ready for the people who use them every day.
The role offers plenty of variety, with involvement across key building systems including HVAC, lifts, automatic doors and other critical infrastructure. You will assist with both programmed and reactive maintenance, undertake building audits, follow up on compliance and rectification works, and help prepare facilities for Council meetings, events and other activities.
This is a hands-on and varied role where your ability to build strong relationships, solve problems and keep things moving will make a real difference to the way our facilities operate.
Key responsibilities of this role include:
- Support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Council buildings, including building services and access systems.
- Coordinate contractors and service providers to ensure maintenance and repair works are completed effectively and to a high standard.
- Undertake building audits and inspections, identify issues and coordinate appropriate rectification works.
- Support the ongoing compliance, presentation and functionality of Council facilities.
- Coordinate meeting room setups, facility requirements and event preparations.
- Process service requests, purchase orders, invoices and other maintenance-related administration.
- Build positive working relationships with internal teams, contractors, tenants and other stakeholders.
- Assist the Senior Building Operations Officer with the ongoing management and improvement of Council’s building portfolio.
What You’ll Bring
- Demonstrated experience in conducting audits and assessing compliance or building condition.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, contractors, and community stakeholders.
