Advert body:
Westbury Constructions has grown sustainably for 15 years to $85M in turnover with a team of around 40 – and it has done so without churning through people. This is a chance to take ownership of the estimating function in a business that promotes from within and backs its leaders.
About the company
Westbury is a reputable, family-owned builder that has grown from Tier 3 into Tier 2 territory over 15 years and is building towards a fully integrated building group across three divisions: Construction, Building Services and Maintenance. With offices in Sydney, Newcastle and regional NSW, the business delivers government, education, aged care, community and SDA projects, holds ISO 45001, 9001 and 14001 certification and is a Master Builders member. FSC accreditation opens Commonwealth-funded tenders across education, health and defence – work you'll be pricing. One of its Directors has been with the business for 15 years; that's the kind of tenure Westbury builds.
The role
Reporting to the Directors and based at head office in Vineyard, you'll lead a team of senior estimators, estimators, cadets and a bid coordinator, and own the tender process end to end. Day to day you'll:
- Review opportunities, drive bid/no-bid decisions and allocate estimating resources
- Oversee first-principles estimates, BoQs, cost plans, D&C;, lump sum, schedule of rates and ECI pricing
- Ensure every estimate captures prelims, margin, escalation, risk allowances and contingencies
- Review commercial risk, prepare qualifications and exclusions and support contract negotiations
- Build and maintain subcontractor and supplier relationships for competitive procurement
- Represent Westbury at tender briefings, client interviews and value engineering workshops
- Improve estimating systems, templates, historical cost data and reporting
You'll be measured on tender success rate, pricing accuracy, submission compliance and team development – and you'll have real authority over methodology, resourcing and subcontractor engagement during tendering.
About you
- 10+ years in commercial construction estimating, including 5+ years leading a team
- Track record on projects from $5M to $100M, ideally in government, education or health
- Strong D&C; procurement knowledge and excellent commercial acumen
- Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or similar
- Proficiency in CostX, Buildsoft, Cubit or similar; BIM take-off experience welcome
- Confident negotiator and communicator with clients, consultants and subcontractors
- Tier 2/3 head contractor background with government tendering experience highly regarded
What's on offer
- $180k–$200k + super
- Leadership of a mature estimating team in a business that has more than doubled turnover in under four years
- A diverse pipeline across government and community sectors, not a single-client dependency
- Direct line to the leadership team and genuine influence on which work the business pursues
- A stable, family-owned workplace where long tenure is the norm, not the exception
