About the role

What the role looks like
- Manage a portfolio of complex travel and assistance claims, making timely liability decisions within delegated authority limits while delivering exceptional customer outcomes.
- Assess policy coverage, major loss events, vulnerable customer cases, financial hardship matters, and escalated or pre-complaint claims, ensuring decisions are fair, accurate, and compliant.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders, including Clinical SMEs,
Underwriters, Complaints teams, and Assistance providers, to support traveller wellbeing and resolve complex cases.
- Provide clear, confident communication of liability decisions and requirements, preparing customer correspondence and ensuring all case actions are accurately documented.
- Act as a technical subject matter expert, coaching and supporting junior team members, providing guidance on complex claims, and contributing to capability development across the team.
- Drive continuous improvement by contributing to regulatory, compliance, product, and customer experience initiatives that enhance service delivery and operational effectiveness.
- Participate in an on-call roster to provide urgent claims support and liability direction outside standard business hours, ensuring travellers receive assistance whenever they need it.
What you’ll bring
· RG146 qualified, with 2+ years' experience in General Insurance and a robust understanding of claims assessment, policy interpretation, and liability decision-making.
· Demonstrated knowledge of the General Insurance Code of Practice and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
· Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex claims decisions to customers and stakeholders.
· Strong judgement and the ability to work autonomously, effectively prioritising workload and managing complex cases with confidence.
· Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, enabling effective collaboration across internal teams, underwriters, and external partners.
· Proven experience in a senior claims handling role, ideally within Travel Insurance, with an understanding of travel assistance services and customer support in high-pressure situations.
· Strong technical and systems capability, with attention to detail and a commitment to delivering compliant, customer-focused outcomes.
