The Supervising AV Technician leads the technical preparation, setup, and operation of sound, lighting, and video systems for live entertainment, corporate events, and venue productions.
This role combines hands-on technical trade operations with on-site crew supervision, technical cost estimating, client consultation, and contract execution to deliver event technical requirements safely and according to client specifications.
Tasks and duties included but are not limited to: Sound Technical Operations ·Installs, configures, and operates digital sound mixing consoles, including Midas M32 systems, for live event sound reinforcement and audio signal routing.
·Positions, patches, and tunes microphone arrangements, lecterns, audio monitors, backline gear, and speaker systems.
·Conducts live soundchecks, regulates volume levels, monitors sound quality, and troubleshoots acoustic feedback or signal path issues during live performances.
Lighting Technical Operations ·Programs and operates GrandMA2, GrandMA3, Chamsys, and Avo lighting control consoles during live shows, concerts, and corporate productions.
·Executes lighting design setups, fixture positioning, focus adjustments, DMX patching, and followspot operations.
·Configures Art-Net and sACN network protocols and signal distribution networks for automated lighting rigs.
LED Screens and Vision Technical Operations ·Assembles, installs, and configures LED screen panel arrays, video processors, and media server interfaces.
·Sets up projectors, monitors, TV displays, and VX video networks across event venues.
Project Administration, Estimating, and Client Management ·Meets with corporate clients, venue managers, and event organizers to determine technical requirements, site constraints, and scope of work.
·Conducts project estimation by analysing labor requirements, technical equipment needs, transport logistics, and venue access schedules to draft commercial quotations.
·Administers client service agreements, equipment hire contracts, vendor terms, and project scope variations.
·Coordinates project delivery schedules, warehouse equipment preparation, pre-rigging allocations, and freight logistics for site bump-in and bump-out operations.
·Supervises in office technical crews and ensures compliance with occupational safety regulations, Job Safety Analysis protocols, White Card standards, and Elevated Work Platform (EWP) procedures.
