Aboriginal Health Workers play an important role across SWSLHD by:

- Supporting Aboriginal patients, families and communities to access culturally safe healthcare.
- Assisting people to navigate health and community services and advocating for their social, emotional and cultural wellbeing.
- Building solid relationships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, organisations and service providers.
- Promoting culturally responsive models of care that improve health outcomes for Aboriginal people.
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across a variety of health and community settings.
- Providing cultural knowledge and advice that strengthens service delivery and patient experiences.

SWSLHD operates its serices across the traditinoal lands of the Dharawal, Darug and Gundungurra peoples, in strong partnership with local Aboriginal communities. Our Aboriginal Health Services are committed to delivering culturally responsive care and supporting the growth and development of our Aboriginal workforce.

- Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with strong cultural knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal communities.




- Demonstrate an understanding of Aboriginal health priorities and factors that impact social, emotional, physical and cultural wellbeing.
- Have experience working with Aboriginal people, families and communities in health, community, education, disability, youth, justice or related settings.
- Build effective relationships with communities, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively while supporting people through their healthcare journey.
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn, grow and contribute positively to Aboriginal health outcomes.

Selection Criteria
To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

- In this role, being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement. Tell us about your mob and your connection to culture.
- Certificate III in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or relevant qualification, or willingness to complete and undertake further training as identified.
- Please describe your experience working with Aboriginal people, families and/or communities.
- Please outline your experience supporting clients in health, community or related services.

Applicants must possess a current unrestricted Australian driver's licence (P2 licence acceptable). Those who hold a licence from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW licence within three months of appointment.
