What you'll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for delivering specialist nursing care and leading development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery to provide effective quality care for patients with complex care needs for the new dedicated inpatient withdrawal management beds. (Port Macquarie Base Hospital).
The position will take a leadership role while working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and act as a clinical expert, professional role model and change agent to promote practice development and quality initiatives that promote safe, efficient, and high-quality care. The position will work closely with the treating medical teams and patient flow manager to ensure efficient and safe bed management
About You
You are an experienced Drug and Alcohol Clinical Nurse with current registration through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, supported by relevant postgraduate qualifications and significant experience working within the alcohol and other drugs sector. You are passionate about delivering evidence-based, person-centred care and have a strong understanding of contemporary withdrawal management practices, comprehensive assessment,
and therapeutic interventions that support individuals experiencing substance use concerns.
Your advanced clinical skills and sound judgement enable you to effectively assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for consumers with complex needs. You are committed to delivering treatment that aligns with best practice guidelines while embracing the principles of harm minimisation and trauma-informed care to promote safety, dignity, and positive health outcomes.
As a confident and collaborative clinician, you work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary teams, building strong relationships with consumers, families, carers, and healthcare professionals. Your excellent communication skills, combined with proficiency in clinical information systems and documentation, support effective care coordination, clinical decision-making, and continuity of care.
You are dedicated to professional excellence and continuous improvement, taking an active role in mentoring colleagues, sharing clinical expertise, and supporting the development of high-performing teams. Through your leadership and commitment to service improvement, you contribute to initiatives that enhance clinical practice, strengthen service delivery, and improve outcomes for people accessing drug and alcohol treatment services.
