- M&A; / Corporate Lawyer – Looking for Something Different?

- Genuinely flexible working arrangements

M&A; / Corporate Lawyer

Are you an M&A; or Corporate Lawyer who enjoys sophisticated transactional work but is starting to question whether the traditional law firm model is where you want to build your long-term career?

I am working exclusively with a leading consulting and professional services organisation that is looking to appoint an M&A; / Corporate Lawyer to its growing legal team.

This is a genuinely different opportunity.

You will continue working on high-quality, sophisticated corporate and M&A; transactions, but within a broader commercial and consulting environment rather than a traditional law firm.

The senior lawyers within the team have strong top-tier private practice backgrounds and understand both the quality of work ambitious corporate lawyers want and the pressures that often come with private practice. They have built a practice that retains the technical quality, interesting clients and complex transactions while offering a more sustainable approach to hours, flexibility and work-life balance.

The Opportunity

The team advises on a broad range of mid-market and larger corporate and M&A; transactions, including Australian and international matters.

Your work may include:

- Mergers and acquisitions, including buy-side and sell-side transactions

- Private equity and founder-led transactions

- Drafting and negotiating transaction documents

- Due diligence and transaction management

- Corporate restructures and reorganisations

- General corporate and commercial advisory

- Fund formation

- Financial services licensing and advisory

- Private client and family trust matters

You certainly don't need experience across all of these areas.

For someone coming from a traditional Corporate/M&A; practice, one of the attractions is the opportunity to broaden your technical and commercial skill set while continuing to work on sophisticated transactional matters.

One of the biggest differences is the environment in which you will be working.

As part of a major consulting organisation, you will have the opportunity to work alongside specialists across deals, tax, finance and other commercial disciplines.

Rather than seeing a transaction purely through a legal lens, you gain greater exposure to the commercial drivers behind the deal, how businesses make decisions and how different professional disciplines come together to advise clients.

You will also have access to the technology, AI capabilities and national resources of a significant international organisation.

It offers an interesting middle ground between private practice and in-house – sophisticated and varied client work, excellent senior lawyers to learn from and genuine career progression, but with broader commercial exposure and a different way of working.

Culture & Work-Life Balance

This is not simply a role advertising "flexibility" while expecting traditional private practice hours.

The team has deliberately created a low-ego,

collaborative and down-to-earth culture where quality of work and outcomes are valued over simply maximising billable hours.

There is genuine flexibility, people are encouraged to be themselves, and family commitments and life outside work are respected.

For the right lawyer, this provides the opportunity to maintain a high-quality corporate legal career without sacrificing everything outside of it.

About You

Ideally, you will have approximately 2–5 years' PAE, although there is flexibility for the right person.

You may currently be working within:

- A top-tier, mid-tier or highly regarded boutique Corporate/M&A; practice

- A broader corporate or commercial transactional team

- An in-house legal position where you have retained strong corporate or transactional experience

Your background may include M&A; transactions, acquisitions and disposals, drafting and negotiating transaction documents, due diligence, restructures, corporate advisory and direct interaction with clients and senior stakeholders.

Solid technical foundations are important, but equally important are commerciality, curiosity, personality and the desire to develop beyond a traditional legal practice.

If you enjoy M&A; and corporate work but are curious about what your career could look like outside the traditional law firm model, I would be very happy to have a confidential discussion about the opportunity.
