About the role - permanent part-time (30 hours per week)
This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery and enforcement of building legislation across both Indigo Shire Council and Towong Shire Council. Working under the guidance of the Municipal Building Surveyor, you will assist with building compliance, inspections, administrative processes, and customer enquiries to help ensure safe and compliant building outcomes. The role offers a varied mix of office-based administration, stakeholder engagement, and field activities while contributing to the effective delivery of Council services.
In this role, you will:
- Assist with the administration and enforcement of building legislation, regulations, local laws, and statutory requirements.
- Support inspections, investigations, compliance audits, and the preparation of building notices, orders, and reports.
- Provide professional customer service and advice to residents, builders, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Assist with report and consent applications, swimming pool and spa registrations, and a range of confidential administrative duties.
About you
You are a motivated and customer-focused Building Surveying professional with a strong understanding of building legislation, compliance requirements, and construction principles. You bring excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills,
enabling you to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders while managing competing priorities. With a proactive approach and attention to detail, you can work both independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality outcomes in a regulatory environment.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying, current Victorian Building Authority registration (BS-U or BS-L), and a current driver's licence.
- Sound knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations, National Construction Code, and relevant building legislation, with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements.
- Experience in building surveying, permit assessments, compliance activities, inspections, and responding to building-related enquiries, complaints, and investigations.
- Strong communication, customer service, time management, and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
