Experienced Café Chef | Daytime Hours, Creativity &
Career Growth
No late nights. Outstanding ingredients. Creative input. Genuine career progression.
Stitch Coffee is looking for an experienced Café Chef to join our kitchen teams at QVB and Broadway in Sydney.
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in producing simple, flavour-driven food exceptionally well — a chef who cares about ingredients, consistency, presentation and the experience of the person eating the dish.
If you love busy daytime kitchens, enjoy contributing ideas and want to grow within an expanding hospitality business, we’d love to hear from you.
Sponsorship may be available for the right candidate.
About Stitch Coffee
At Stitch, we believe great cafés are about more than exceptional coffee.
Food, coffee, service and atmosphere all work together to create an experience people want to return to.
Our food philosophy is centred around simple, bold and beautifully executed dishes — food with clear flavours, quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation.
We don't believe dishes need to be complicated to be memorable.
As Stitch continues to grow across Sydney, we're looking for talented kitchen professionals who want to grow with us.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Stitch Chef, you'll be responsible for delivering consistently excellent food while contributing positively to the performance and culture of the kitchen.
You will:
- Prepare and cook high-quality café and breakfast dishes with consistency and attention to detail.
- Deliver simple, bold, flavour-driven food to Stitch's presentation and quality standards.
- Work confidently during busy breakfast and lunch service.
- Maintain consistency in portioning, presentation, flavour and execution.
- Work closely with the Head Chef and wider kitchen team.
- Contribute ideas for seasonal dishes, specials and menu development.
- Help identify opportunities to improve kitchen systems and efficiency.
- Maintain excellent food safety, hygiene and cleaning standards.
- Monitor stock and help maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Minimise food waste through good preparation,
storage and portion control.
- Support and mentor developing kitchen team members.
- Take ownership rather than waiting for someone else to solve problems.
- Contribute to a respectful, organised and positive kitchen environment.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines strong cooking ability with reliability, organisation and a team-first attitude.
You will ideally have:
- Minimum 3 years' professional chef experience.
- Strong experience in café, breakfast or daytime restaurant kitchens.
- Confidence working in a high-volume service environment.
- Strong understanding of flavour, seasoning and balance.
- High standards of food presentation and consistency.
- A genuine appreciation for quality produce and ingredients.
- Strong preparation and organisational skills.
- Excellent food safety and hygiene practices.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities during busy service.
- Strong communication skills and a respectful approach to teamwork.
- A willingness to receive feedback and continue developing.
- An interest in contributing ideas rather than simply following recipes.
Experience with bread, baking or pastry is highly regarded but not essential.
Availability Requirements
Because our cafés are busiest during mornings, weekends and public holidays, applicants must:
- Be available to work weekends.
- Be available to work public holidays when rostered.
- Be able to start shifts from 6:00am when required.
- Have reliable transport and be able to consistently arrive on time for early starts.
Please only apply if these availability requirements work for you.
The Kind of Chef We Value
Technical ability matters, but so does the way you work.
We value chefs who:
- Take pride in doing simple things exceptionally well.
- Taste their food and care about the details.
- Stay calm and organised when service gets busy.
- Help their teammates rather than blame them.
- Keep their section clean without needing to be asked.
- Look for better and more efficient ways of working.
- Share their knowledge generously.
- Accept feedback professionally.
- Take responsibility for their work.
- Care about the customer receiving the dish, not just getting food through the pass.
We want people who make both the food and the team around them better.
