Client Services Consultant – Environmental & Occupational Hygiene

Part-time, 1-year fixed term | 4–5 days per week | School-hours friendly
Main Ridge, Mornington Peninsula | Flexible/hybrid working
$70,000–$90,000 FTE + super, pro rata | Casual option available

About the role
Mobile Screening Australia is looking for a technically minded Client Services Consultant to support our growing environmental and occupational hygiene services.
This is not a traditional sales or call-centre client services role. We are looking for someone who can understand the technical context behind a client's enquiry, ask the right questions, and help determine what assessment or monitoring program is actually required.
A background in environmental science, occupational hygiene, workplace health, chemistry or another relevant scientific discipline would therefore be highly valuable.
The role may also particularly suit someone who has worked in occupational hygiene or environmental monitoring in the field and would now prefer a predominantly office-based technical role, while continuing to use their scientific knowledge and experience.
We are open to appointing at either Client Services Consultant or Senior Client Services Consultant level, depending on the successful candidate's experience, technical knowledge and ability to independently scope and manage more complex client requirements.
Working arrangements
This is initially a one-year fixed-term, part-time position. If the role works well for both the successful applicant and Mobile Screening, there may be an opportunity for it to continue beyond the initial term and potentially grow in hours and scope as the business develops.
We are looking for someone who can work reasonably consistently across the working week, with:
- a minimum of four working days per week;
- approximately 5–6 hours per day;
- flexibility around start and finish times; and
- an arrangement that can readily accommodate school-hours work.
Our office is located in Main Ridge on the Mornington Peninsula.
Mobile Screening operates flexibly and we would consider candidates requiring a greater level of remote work. However, our preference is to find someone who can work from the Main Ridge office at least three days per week, allowing them to work alongside our broader Client Services and operational teams while retaining flexibility for the balance of their week.
If preferred by the successful applicant, we are also open to discussing a casual employment arrangement rather than a fixed-term part-time contract.
What you'll be working with
The role will have a particular focus on enquiries relating to:
- workplace noise assessments and noise monitoring;
- occupational air monitoring and air quality assessments;
- dust, silica, welding fumes and other airborne contaminants;
- lighting and lux assessments; and
- related environmental and occupational hygiene services.
Rather than simply receiving an enquiry and preparing a standard quote, you will work with the client to understand what is happening in their workplace, what they are trying to assess and what information our occupational hygiene team will need to undertake the work properly.
Depending on your experience, this may include discussing workplace processes and activities, identifying worker groups and similar exposure groups (SEGs), reviewing Safety Data Sheets, considering potential contaminants and exposure pathways, and helping determine the practical scope of an assessment or monitoring program.
What you'll do
Your responsibilities will include:
- speaking with clients to understand their workplace, activities and assessment requirements;
- asking appropriate technical questions to properly scope occupational hygiene work;
- reviewing information supplied by clients, including workplace information and Safety Data Sheets;
- preparing accurate quotations for noise, air quality, lux and other occupational hygiene services;
- considering sampling requirements, worker groups, locations, timing, staffing, travel and other practical requirements when preparing quotes;
- progressing enquiries through quotation, follow-up, conversion and booking;
- obtaining complete operational information before work is handed over for scheduling and delivery;
- working with occupational hygienists, consultants and field staff where additional technical input is required;
- maintaining accurate client, quotation and opportunity information within our CRM;
- proactively following up outstanding quotations and repeat-service opportunities;
- building relationships with existing and prospective clients; and
- identifying other Mobile Screening services that may be relevant to a client's requirements.
At Senior Client Services Consultant level, the role may also involve managing more complex, customised, multi-site or higher-value enquiries; applying greater technical and commercial judgement; contributing to larger proposals; reviewing work prepared by developing team members; and acting as a first point of escalation for more difficult scoping or client matters.
About you
We are deliberately keeping the candidate profile reasonably broad.
You may be:
- an environmental science graduate looking for a pathway into occupational hygiene;
- an occupational hygiene technician or consultant interested in moving into a predominantly office-based position;
- someone with experience undertaking workplace noise, air monitoring or environmental assessments;
- a laboratory or scientific professional looking for a more client-facing role;
- returning to the workforce and looking for a technically engaging role that can fit within school hours; or
- someone from another relevant scientific discipline who can understand workplace exposures and communicate technical information clearly.
You will ideally bring:
- qualifications and/or experience in environmental science, occupational hygiene, chemistry, workplace health or another relevant scientific field;
- an ability to understand technical and scientific information and apply it practically;
- confidence talking with clients about their workplaces, processes, chemicals,
contaminants and potential exposures;
- the ability to interpret Safety Data Sheets and other technical information;
- strong written and verbal communication skills;
- positive attention to detail;
- an organised approach to managing multiple enquiries and quotations;
- sound judgement and problem-solving skills;
- confidence asking further questions where a client's initial scope is incomplete; and
- an ability to explain technical concepts clearly to people without a scientific background.
Previous occupational hygiene experience would be highly regarded but is not essential for someone with the right scientific foundation, aptitude and willingness to learn.
This isn't a traditional sales role
We are not necessarily looking for someone from a sales or business development background.
For this position, we place greater value on someone who can understand the subject matter, have an informed conversation with a client about their workplace and help scope the right assessment.
We can teach our systems, pricing structures, quoting processes and internal workflows. What is particularly valuable to us is the ability to understand the technical problem the client is trying to solve.
Career level and remuneration
The position sits within Mobile Screening's Client Services career pathway and may be appointed at either of two levels, with flexibility to consider a higher salary for an exceptional candidate.
Client Services Consultant
$65,000–$75,000 FTE + super, pro rata
Suitable for someone capable of independently managing standard environmental and occupational hygiene enquiries, quotations, follow-up and booking coordination, while escalating more complex technical or commercial matters.
Senior Client Services Consultant
$76,000–$85,000 FTE + super, pro rata
Suitable for someone bringing stronger occupational hygiene, environmental or field experience who can independently manage more complex enquiries, apply greater technical and commercial judgement and provide guidance to other team members.
For applicants preferring casual employment, the corresponding indicative casual range is approximately $41.12–$53.78 per hour + super, depending on the level of appointment.
