Specialist nursing coordination role supporting rural and regional patients to access timely endoscopy care
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Endoscopy Rural and Regional Nurse Coordinator to join the Planned Surgery team at St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. In this specialised nursing role, you will coordinate the endoscopy care journey for patients referred from rural and regional Victoria, helping to ensure timely, equitable and well-coordinated access to endoscopy services. Working within the Endoscopy Waitlist team, you will collaborate closely with nursing, administrative and clinical teams, as well as rural and regional health services, to coordinate referrals, patient triage, procedure preparation and scheduling. You will act as a central point of contact for patients and partner health services, supporting communication between services and helping patients navigate their endoscopy journey. This includes coordinating pre-procedure bowel preparation and assisting patients who may require support with travel and accommodation. The role will also contribute to the development and continuous improvement of partnerships with rural and regional health services, strengthening referral pathways and supporting seamless transitions of care.
Classification: YY4 - $121,695.60 per annum, pro rata for part time
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the endoscopy care journey for patients referred from rural and regional areas
- Act as a central point of contact for patients and partner health services throughout the referral and treatment process
- Coordinate patient triage, procedure preparation and endoscopy scheduling according to clinical urgency and suitability
- Work collaboratively with the broader Endoscopy team to support efficient scheduling and optimal utilisation of endoscopy sessions
- Ensure referrals are actioned in accordance with the Planned Surgery Access Policy and patients receive appropriate follow-up
- Support patients who require assistance with travel and accommodation to facilitate access to their endoscopy procedure
- Coordinate pre-procedure requirements, including bowel preparation, to support patient readiness for endoscopy
- Maintain accurate patient booking information and support high standards of data integrity
- Work collaboratively with rural and regional health services to strengthen referral pathways and continuity of care
- Support the ongoing development and continuous improvement of rural and regional health service partnerships
Your Contribution
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Bachelor of Nursing that meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through AHPRA
- Nursing experience within a surgical and/or endoscopy setting
- Strong clinical coordination, organisation and problem-solving skills
- The ability to build effective working relationships and engage teams to deliver patient-focused outcomes
- Robust communication and interpersonal skills,
with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple health services and disciplines
- A current National Criminal History Check , or willingness to obtain one

About Planned Surgery
The Planned Surgery Team coordinates and case manages patients on the St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne Planned Surgery and Endoscopy waiting lists in accordance with the Department of Health's Planned Surgery Access Policy. The team supports patients across surgical and endoscopy specialties at SVHM and coordinates pre-operative care through dedicated pre-admission clinics. This also includes services provided through the St Vincent's on the Park (SVHOP) Rapid Access Hub. Working collaboratively across the organisation, the team plays an important role in supporting timely access to care, effective patient flow and a coordinated experience for patients throughout their planned procedure journey.
