About the Role

On behalf of our client - a specialist in industrial maintenance, shutdowns, and mechanical upgrades across mining and heavy industry - we are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician. This role focuses on hands-on technical support, from drafting to field testing, ensuring reliability in high-pressure environments.

Key Duties

n

Design & Documentation

n

n
- Prepare detailed mechanical drawings, plans, and designs under the direction of Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists, with a focus on industrial plant and equipment modifications.
n
- Assist in designing mechanical equipment and hydraulic power systems for site-specific upgrades and shutdown projects.
n

n

Assembly & Installation

n

n
- Assemble, install, and modify mechanical assemblies, components, machine tools, and hydraulic power systems, ensuring compliance with operational safety and performance standards.
n
- Select appropriate tools and equipment for each task, considering environmental conditions and project timelines.
n

n

Analysis & Testing

n

n
- Perform and direct field and laboratory tests on machinery and plant systems to validate performance under load.
n
- Collect and analyze data from tests, carry out complex computations,



and prepare diagrams to support engineering decisions.
n

Materials & Cost Estimation

n

n
- Estimate material costs, quantities, and machine requirements for maintenance scopes and capital works, aligning with project budgets.
n
- Prepare technical reports that support procurement and resource planning.
n

n

Inspection & Compliance

n

n
- Organize and supervise inspection and maintenance schedules for machines and plant, prioritizing uptime and reliability.
n
- Ensure all designs and finished work meet specifications, regulations, and contract provisions, including site safety standards.
n

Requirements

n

n
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience)
n
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a mechanical technician role within industrial maintenance, mining, or heavy engineering environments
n
- Proficiency in reading and preparing mechanical drawings and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
n
- Strong understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, machine tools, and mechanical assemblies
n
- Experience in field testing, data collection, and analysis of mechanical systems
n
- Ability to estimate material quantities and costs accurately
n
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations and compliance standards
n
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
n
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with engineers and site teams
n
- Valid driver's license and willingness to work on-site as required
