Purpose of the Position
n
The Governance Officer will support the provision of robust and effective governance functions across the Institute; provide high quality advice and services to various governance Committees and other stakeholders regarding governance matters and identify any real or emerging risks to the Institute.
n
Duties
n
n
- Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting on governance frameworks and functions within the Institute.
n
- With guidance of the Manager Governance, provide advice to a range of internal stakeholders and various Governance Committees in ensuring the effective governance of the Institute.
n
- Undertake research into current and emerging trends in the governance of post-secondary educational facilities at national and international levels.
n
- Draft a range of documents including procedures, guidelines, correspondence, and fact sheets.
n
- Provide quality secretariat services to a range of governance committees.
n
- Contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting on various strategies / tactics to increase awareness of the Institute's staff of governance and compliance requirements.
n
- Assist with a range of audits to assess compliance with governance requirements.
n
- Establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationship to support and facilitate the Institute's governance and risk management priorities
n
- Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.

Selection Criteria
n
n
- Proven experience providing quality governance support services, preferably in a tertiary education context including a secretariat function.
n
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
n
- Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
n
- Demonstrated organisational and prioritisation skills with proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
n
- High degree of personal resilience, reliability, integrity, accountability and confidentiality.
n
- Proven high level skills in using commonly used office software and databases (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) with good attention to detail.
n
- Ability to build solid relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
n
- Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
n

- Relevant Tertiary qualification.
n
- Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Institute's structure, functions, and objectives.
