Chief Executive Officer (with CTO responsibilities) – Fibre Technology & Telecommunications

Melbourne, VIC

Technology Start-Up / Telecommunications / Fibre Infrastructure An exceptional opportunity exists for a commercially driven, technically credible Chief Executive Officer to lead an emerging Australian technology business operating at the intersection of fibre infrastructure, telecommunications and digital connectivity.

Our client is a privately backed, high-growth technology start-up building and operating next-generation fibre networks and the digital platforms that support them.

With a strong foundation already established and significant ambitions ahead, the business is seeking a CEO who can combine deep telecommunications and fibre-sector knowledge with the mindset of a technology founder — someone capable of scaling a business, building product and operational capability, engaging investors and driving significant enterprise value.

This is not a traditional corporate CEO appointment.

We are looking for an entrepreneurial leader who understands both the technology and commercial mechanics of building a modern telecommunications platform.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Board and shareholders, the CEO will have end-to-end accountability for the strategy, growth and performance of the organisation.

You will lead the evolution of the business from an emerging platform into a scalable technology-led telecommunications company.

Your mandate will include

- Defining and executing the overall technology, product and commercial strategy;
- Scaling the organisation’s fibre network footprint and digital capabilities;
- Building a scalable operating model capable of supporting rapid growth;
- Driving product innovation across network provisioning, connectivity and customer enablement;
- Working closely with technical leadership on network architecture, platforms, automation and operational capability;
- Leading commercial negotiations with telecommunications providers, RSPs, property developers, infrastructure partners and strategic customers;
- Developing new revenue models and commercial propositions;
- Building strategic partnerships across telecommunications, technology, infrastructure and property;
- Owning the P&L;, capital allocation and long-term financial performance of the business;
- Developing and leading a high-performing technical, operational and commercial leadership team;
- Establishing the systems, governance, reporting and operational disciplines required for scale;
- Leading investor, shareholder and Board engagement;
- Supporting capital raising,

investment and strategic growth initiatives where required;
- Identifying acquisition, partnership and expansion opportunities; and
- Acting as the external face of the company across technology, telecommunications and investment markets.

Technology & Product Leadership

While this is not a hands-on engineering position, the successful candidate must be technically credible and comfortable operating within a technology-led environment.

You should be able to engage meaningfully with technical teams and understand areas such as:

- Fibre network architecture and deployment;
- FTTP and next-generation passive optical networks;
- Wholesale telecommunications platforms;
- Network provisioning and service activation;
- OSS / BSS environments;
- API-led integration;
- Network automation;
- Service assurance and fault management;
- Network monitoring and performance;
- Carrier and RSP integration;
- Data, analytics and operational reporting;
- Cybersecurity and resilience; and
- The broader technology stack required to operate and scale a modern telecommunications network.

You do not need to be the organisation’s chief engineer, but you must be capable of challenging technical assumptions, making informed technology investment decisions and translating complex technology into commercial outcomes.

About You

We are seeking a rare combination of technology leadership, telecommunications expertise and entrepreneurial capability.

You are likely to have held a role such as:

- Chief Executive Officer;
- Chief Technology Officer with significant commercial responsibility;
- Chief Operating Officer;
- Chief Product Officer;
- Executive General Manager; or
- Senior executive within a fibre, telecommunications, network infrastructure or connectivity business.

You will ideally bring:

- Significant leadership experience within telecommunications, fibre networks, broadband, digital infrastructure or connectivity technology;
- Strong technical literacy across telecommunications and network infrastructure;
- A deep understanding of fibre network economics and commercial models;
- Experience within wholesale telecommunications and/or carrier environments;

- Experience building or scaling a technology-led organisation;
- Exposure to technology platforms, network systems and automation;
- Strong commercial and P&L; leadership capability;
- Experience developing technology and product strategy;
- Demonstrated success taking new products, platforms or business models to market;
- Experience scaling teams, systems and operational capability;
- Solid relationships across telecommunications, technology and infrastructure markets;
- Experience working directly with Boards, shareholders and investors;
- Exposure to capital raising, infrastructure investment or private equity environments would be highly regarded;
- Exceptional commercial negotiation and stakeholder management capability; and
- The ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial and relatively unstructured environment.

The Profile We Are Looking For Of particular interest will be executives who have previously:

- Built or scaled a fibre or telecommunications technology business;
- Founded, exited or materially grown a technology company;
- Led the commercialisation of network infrastructure or connectivity products;
- Built a wholesale telecommunications or fibre platform;
- Taken an infrastructure-led business and transformed it into a scalable technology platform; or
- Held senior leadership responsibility within a high-growth telco, connectivity or digital infrastructure organisation.

This opportunity will suit someone who is equally comfortable in a Board meeting, with investors, discussing network architecture with engineers, or negotiating a strategic commercial agreement.

Why This Opportunity?

This is a genuine build-and-scale mandate.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

- Shape the technology and commercial direction of an emerging Australian telecommunications business;
- Build a company rather than simply inherit one;
- Work directly with committed shareholders and an engaged Board;
- Create scalable technology, product and operational capability;
- Build significant enterprise value; and
- Play a central role in the growth of a next-generation fibre and connectivity platform.

A competitive executive remuneration package, including performance-based incentives, will be structured to attract an exceptional candidate.

All applications and discussions will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Applicants who do not have substantial senior leadership experience within fibre, telecommunications, network technology or closely aligned digital infrastructure environments, will NOT be considered. Thank you.
