About the job
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Capital Delivery, the Commercial Director, Capital Delivery is responsible for leading the commercial management function across SA Water's capital delivery program. Managing a team of Commercial and Contract Managers and Administrators, you will provide strategic guidance across commercial governance, contract management, negotiation, assurance, and performance reporting.
As a key member of the Capital Delivery Leadership Team, you will drive commercial strategies that maximise value, manage risk, strengthen contractor performance, and support the successful delivery of approximately $700 million in capital investment each year.
About you
You are a strategic commercial mentor with proven experience managing complex contractual environments within large-scale infrastructure programs. You possess exceptional negotiation skills, commercial acumen,
and the ability to influence outcomes at executive and industry levels.
You thrive in fast-paced, complex environments and have a track record of building capable teams, implementing robust governance frameworks, and delivering measurable commercial outcomes.
You will:
- Head and develop a high-performing commercial management team.
- Develop and implement short, medium and long-term commercial and contract management strategies.
- Oversee commercial assurance frameworks to ensure contractual compliance, governance, and value realisation.
- Lead complex, high-value negotiations, commercial discussions, and dispute resolution processes.
- Drive continuous improvement in commercial and contract management practices.
- Monitor and report on commercial performance, contract outcomes, and team effectiveness across the capital program.
- Provide expert commercial advice to senior leaders and project teams.
- Foster strong relationships with key internal stakeholders, delivery partners, contractors, and industry representatives.
Your success in this role will come from:
- Formal qualifications in Commercial Management, Procurement, Law, Business, Engineering or a related discipline, with MCIPS or equivalent experience highly regarded.
- Extensive experience running commercial and contract management teams.
- Significant experience managing commercial outcomes across major infrastructure projects or programs.
- Demonstrated success leading complex, high-value negotiations and dispute resolution processes.
- Experience developing, implementing, and governing commercial assurance frameworks.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement, influencing,
and relationship management capabilities.
- Ability to operate strategically while maintaining strong operational oversight.
