Are you passionate about growing native plants and contributing to your local environment?

Join our Community Nursery team and help propagate and cultivate locally native plants that support Council's landscaping, revegetation and environmental projects across the Sutherland Shire.

As a Horticulturist – Community Nursery, you will play a key role in growing high-quality nursery stock from locally collected seed and cuttings while helping visitors connect with native plants and sustainable gardening practices. You'll contribute to a safe, productive and environmentally responsible workplace while building positive relationships with customers, volunteers and the wider community.

What you'll be doing

- Propagating and cultivating native plants from seed and cuttings
- Providing advice and assistance to nursery visitors on native plants and gardening practices
- Preparing potting mixes, containers and planting stock
- Watering, fertilising and monitoring plant health
- Managing pests, weeds and diseases, including chemical application where required
- Operating and maintaining nursery equipment and irrigation systems
- Maintaining nursery records and reporting maintenance requirements
- Supporting plant production for Council landscaping and revegetation projects
- Building positive relationships with customers, volunteers and community groups
- Supporting community engagement, education and environmental awareness initiatives
- Working safely and contributing to a positive team culture

About you

You are a motivated horticultural qualified who enjoys working with native plants and takes pride in producing quality nursery stock. Just as importantly, you enjoy connecting with people, sharing your knowledge and creating positive experiences for customers and community members.

Essential

- Certificate III in Horticulture, Production Nursery or equivalent
- ChemCert (AQF3) or equivalent
- Effective communication, customer service and teamwork skills
- NSW White Card
- Current Class C Driver Licence




- Recent experience in nursery production, plant propagation or a similar horticultural role
- Knowledge of plant propagation, nursery operations and safe chemical application
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety

Desirable

- Certificate IV in Horticulture or equivalent
- Experience propagating Australian native plants from seed and cuttings
- Experience with irrigation systems and nursery equipment
- Experience working with volunteers, community groups or customers in a horticultural or environmental setting

- Package: $72,577 to $76,813 per annum plus 12% superannuation
- Hours of work: Working 38 hours per week over a 9 day fortnight
