Inner Fire
Brisbane
Who we are
Inner Fire Co. is a performance cacao brand built in Brisbane by two people and one very tired spreadsheet.
We make Warriors Cacao for people who want to get through a full day without the 3pm collapse.
We're not anti-coffee. We just think four coffees before lunch shouldn't qualify as a personality.
We source cacao from farms in the Philippines, Peru, Ecuador and Thailand. We went to all four in twelve months, because we wanted to see it ourselves.
There were tuk-tuks. They were excellent.
We are not a ceremonial cacao brand. There will be no candles. If a shoot ever calls for a candle, something has gone wrong and we'll deal with it then.
Our site is still being built, but have a look: www.innerfireco.com.au
The role
We're pre-launch, which means the visual library doesn't exist yet — unless you count several aggressively organised folders. We don't.
You'd be helping build it across website, social, email, founder content, markets and events.
Think premium spirits. Specialty coffee. Dark, editorial, directional light, deep shadow and texture.
Think anything except the health-food aisle.
What you'd actually be doing
- Hero product shots for the website — products, bundles, ingredients and accessories
- Short-form vertical video for Instagram and TikTok — shot and edited by you
- Photographing the two of us. Real, unposed, minimal use of the phrase "just act natural"
- Markets, events and tastings — the pour, customers, first-taste reactions, setup, chaos and Stories while it's happening
- Filming product arrivals, launches and behind-the-scenes moments
- Eventually, interviews and podcast-style conversations
- Working with our team in the Philippines on the content plan, calendar and graphics, so assets arrive ready to use rather than beginning an international WhatsApp investigation.
What we're looking for
Light. Single-source, directional, warm. Depth and shadow, not a frame filled evenly. If you're good at this, most of the rest is teachable.
Video. Vertical, short-form, shot and cut. Half the job.
Interviews, or the appetite for them.
We'll be filming conversations before long — founders, farmers, people who know more about this bean than we do. Done sit-down work? Lead with it. Haven't but want to? Say so.
Grade. Your finals should arrive looking like Inner Fire, not like raw files. Consistent, warm, dark. We'll give you the reference.
Product craft. Food, drink, objects, coffee, spirits, supplements — anything where you had to make an inanimate thing look worth $500 and somehow emotionally necessary.
Story instinct. Sometimes the best shot won't be on the shot list. We want someone who notices the moment before we do.
Live capture. Markets are chaos. You need to shoot fast, adapt and still come away with something good.
Editing. Basic captions, text overlays, sound and multiple usable cuts from one shoot.
Organisation. Sensible folders and file names. We don't want to solve crimes six months from now to find one photo.
Your own gear. Camera, lights and audio. We currently own cacao, not a production studio.
Brisbane. Our commercial kitchen, markets around the inner suburbs, and locations we'll scout together.
Self-direction. You'll get a brief and a shot list, then plenty of room. We won't stand behind you saying, "Maybe slightly left... no, your other left."
About weekends
Some markets, events and tastings fall on weekends.
Not every one — but you'd be there for a few of them, including at least one 5am setup, because us dragging a gazebo across wet grass in the dark will probably outperform half the planned content.
There may be swearing. Documentary integrity requires you not to intervene.
Those hours come out of your normal ten hours for the week, not on top.
Who this role suits
At $40/hour, we're looking for an emerging creator with strong technical fundamentals and very good taste.
Maybe you've been freelancing for a couple of years.
Maybe you've recently finished studying.
Maybe your work is already better than your CV.
Maybe your current job is making you question some of your life choices.
We don't care much about logos on your client list.
We care whether you can light a dark frame, cut a strong Reel and make ordinary things look interesting.
What you get
- $40/hour, 10 hours a week, invoiced fortnightly
- Direct access to the founders. Depending on the week this is either a perk or a warning.
- A explicit visual direction that's already defined
- Real portfolio work from day one
- Room to experiment and grow with the brand
- A small team, monthly trivia night and at least one person who cheats
- Free cacao, which at 5am on a Saturday will feel less like a perk and more like infrastructure
All work produced in the role is assigned to Inner Fire Co. with full commercial usage rights. You're free to use it in your portfolio — we'd like you to.
How to apply
Email ****@innerfireco.com.au
Subject: CREATIVE HIRE — [YOUR NAME]
1. Your portfolio. Site or PDF. Best dark work first.
2. A 60-second vertical video, shot by you, telling us why you'd be good at this. Fair warning: we'll be looking at the lighting more than listening to the words. Say whatever you like. Say it well-lit.
3. If you've shot interview or talking-head work, send one example. Optional. We'll be listening to the audio.
4. One sentence on what makes Inner Fire different from every other cacao brand in Australia. Have a look at the site first. We'll be able to tell.
5. When you could start, whether occasional weekends work for you, and what camera/editing setup you use.
6. What brand do you think has annoyingly good photography? There is a wrong answer. We just haven't decided what it is yet.
That's it.
No cover letter.
Nobody enjoys those.
