Standalone Payroller - $120k + Super
Location:
Smithfield, NSW
Salary Package:
$120,000 + Super (flexible for the right candidate)
Role Highlights:
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Officer to take ownership of a standalone payroll function within a stable and well-established business. Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will manage payroll for more than 300 employees across manufacturing, distribution and corporate operations.
This role will suit an experienced payroll professional looking for autonomy, ownership and long-term stability. Candidates who have previously worked in standalone payroll positions and are confident managing complex payroll environments independently will be highly regarded.
Alongside day-to-day payroll responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to contribute to several key payroll and systems projects, including the integration of payroll systems into MYOB PayGlobal and the implementation of HRIS-to-payroll system interfaces. This role offers exposure to continuous improvement initiatives and the chance to help shape the future payroll environment of the business.
Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, you will take full responsibility for the end-to-end processing of both weekly and monthly payrolls across a workforce of more than 300 employees. Your responsibilities will include payroll processing, payroll tax, superannuation, reconciliations, compliance reporting, employee maintenance and responding to payroll enquiries across the business. You'll work closely with Finance, People & Culture and operational stakeholders to ensure payroll is delivered accurately and on time.
This is a genuine standalone position where you will be the payroll subject matter expert for the business. As such, this role requires someone who has previously managed payroll independently and is comfortable taking ownership of all payroll-related responsibilities.
The successful candidate will enjoy a high level of autonomy and become a trusted partner to both finance and operational leaders.

- Process weekly and monthly payroll for a workforce of 300+ employees
- Manage overtime, allowances, shift penalties, deductions and payroll adjustments

- Manage leave accruals including annual leave, personal leave, long service leave and parental leave
- Prepare and lodge payroll tax, PAYG withholding, superannuation and statutory obligations
- Manage Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting requirements
- Complete payroll reconciliations and month-end and year-end payroll activities
- Prepare payroll reporting, labour cost reporting, leave reporting and headcount reporting
- Assist with payroll audits and compliance reviews
- Conduct payroll reconciliations and identify discrepancies prior to payroll finalisation
- Respond to payroll enquiries from employees and management
- Provide guidance regarding taxation, leave entitlements, superannuation and payroll processes
- Ensure ongoing compliance with Awards, Enterprise Agreements, Fair Work legislation and relevant payroll regulations
- Participate in payroll system upgrades, testing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Support payroll and HRIS integration projects across the business
Candidate Profile
You are an experienced Payroll Officer who has previously held responsibility for a standalone payroll function.
This experience is essential. You are comfortable working independently, making decisions, managing competing priorities and taking full ownership of payroll outcomes. Your technical payroll knowledge is strong and you have a thorough understanding of payroll legislation, payroll tax, superannuation and compliance reporting requirements.
You will ideally come from a manufacturing environment or have worked within a blue-collar organisation where overtime, allowances, shift penalties and complex timesheets form part of day-to-day payroll processing. Experience interpreting Awards and Enterprise Agreements will be highly regarded, along with advanced Excel capability including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables and payroll reporting. Experience with payrolls of 300+ employees is essential, while exposure to MYOB PayGlobal, payroll integrations, system implementations or payroll transformation projects will be highly regarded.
