Crows Nest

Join a growing IVF clinic where science, innovation and compassionate patient care come together.

Connect IVF is seeking a Scientific Officer to join our dedicated laboratory team in Crows Nest.

We are committed to providing connected, compassionate and affordable assisted reproductive technology (ART) to the people of Sydney. At Connect IVF, treatment is guided by each patient’s individual fertility needs—not their financial position. Our purpose is to deliver high-quality, evidence-based fertility care and help more patients achieve their dream of building a family.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong interest in science and laboratory operations to join an established IVF team and play an important role in supporting the effective, safe and high-quality delivery of our laboratory services.

About Connect IVF

Connect IVF is focused on delivering accessible, high-quality fertility care without compromising on clinical outcomes.

Our purpose-built clinic combines world-class technology, evidence-based treatment and individualised patient care to optimise each patient’s chance of having a baby.

Our multidisciplinary team of fertility specialists, embryologists, nurses and patient advocates work closely together to support patients throughout every step of their fertility journey.

We value clinical excellence, innovation, teamwork and, above all, the experience and wellbeing of our patients.

About the Role

Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor, you will provide scientific and operational support across the Connect IVF laboratory.

The Scientific Officer role is an important part of the laboratory team, ensuring that embryologists and other scientific staff have the equipment, consumables, information and practical support they need to deliver high-quality patient care.

The role combines administrative, organisational and technical laboratory support, and will suit someone who is organised, reliable, practical and comfortable working in a busy clinical environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Providing timely and effective scientific support to the laboratory team.

- Maintaining appropriate levels of laboratory stock, consumables, equipment and supplies.

- Ordering, receiving, checking, distributing and storing laboratory supplies and consumables.

- Preparing paperwork and supporting laboratory administration.

- Completing accurate data entry and information processing within the patient management system (PMS) and other laboratory databases.

- Maintaining laboratory records, batch control and stock and equipment records.

- Monitoring laboratory equipment and environmental parameters, recording results and escalating or assisting with alarm and maintenance issues as required.

- Participating in stocktakes, audits, quality management activities and laboratory improvement projects.

- Coordinating gamete and embryo transport as required.

- Supporting the scheduling and monitoring of servicing and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment.

- Assisting scientific staff with day-to-day laboratory requirements.

- Performing general laboratory support duties including cleaning, aseptic techniques and appropriate handling of biological, chemical and hazardous materials.

- Supporting the laboratory team to maintain a clean, safe, organised and productive working environment.

- Identifying opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency and patient support.

- Working collaboratively with scientific, clinical, administrative and other teams across Connect IVF.

- Participating in scientific and other meetings as required.

- Complying with all Connect IVF policies, procedures and processes.

- Supporting compliance with relevant ART legislation, regulatory requirements, RTAC and NHMRC standards and guidelines.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

- Reliable, organised and highly attentive to detail.

- Comfortable working in a busy laboratory and clinical environment.

- Confident using computers and a range of administrative systems.

- An effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.

- Able to build positive and professional relationships with colleagues across the business.

- Able to prioritise tasks, manage competing demands and meet deadlines.

- A proactive team player who is willing to assist wherever required.

- Practical, solutions-focused and interested in improving processes and workflow.

- Committed to maintaining high standards of quality, safety, confidentiality and professionalism.

- Interested in developing their knowledge and skills within the IVF and reproductive medicine environment.

About You – Experience and Qualifications

To be considered for this position, you will have:

- Completion of high school.

- Experience in clerical and administrative duties, including printing, scanning, filing, data entry, computer system administration, ordering, stock management, phone calls and emails.

- General laboratory experience, preferably involving biological or chemical materials.

- An understanding of, or willingness to learn, aseptic techniques and appropriate handling of biological, chemical and hazardous materials.

- Strong computer skills and attention to detail.

- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

- The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

Previous experience within a medical, scientific, pathology, IVF or laboratory environment will be highly regarded.
