CNC Machinist – Heidenhain Controller

Nezkot Pty Ltd is an Australian precision engineering company specialising in high-quality CNC-machined components for the aerospace, defence and advanced manufacturing industries.
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to set up, program and operate our CNC milling machine equipped with a Heidenhain controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate a CNC milling machine.
- Create, edit and optimise Heidenhain conversational programs at the machine.
- Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, GD&T; and manufacturing instructions.
- Plan machining sequences, workholding arrangements and tooling requirements.
- Set work offsets, tool lengths and cutting parameters.
- Machine one-off, prototype and low-volume precision components.
- Safely load, position and secure large or heavy workpieces.
- Inspect completed work using micrometers, verniers, height gauges and other inspection equipment.
- Monitor machining operations and make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
- Troubleshoot programming, tooling and machining issues.
- Complete in-process inspection and production records.
- Perform routine machine checks, cleaning and basic preventative maintenance.
- Maintain an organised, safe and efficient work area.
- Follow Nezkot’s quality, safety and document-control procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience setting up and operating CNC milling or bed milling machines.
- Practical experience with Heidenhain CNC controls.
- Ability to program or modify Heidenhain conversational programs.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tools, speeds and feeds.
- Ability to read detailed engineering drawings and understand dimensional tolerances.
- Experience producing precision components with minimal supervision.
- Competence using manual measuring and inspection equipment.
- Valuable problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to workplace safety, quality and accurate recordkeeping.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a manufacturing team.
Highly Regarded
- Experience machining large, complex or high-value components.
- Experience with multi-face setups, angle heads or complex workholding.
- Knowledge of GD&T.;
- Experience machining aluminium, stainless steel, alloy steel and defence-grade materials.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality system.
- Experience manufacturing components for aerospace or defence applications.
- Trade qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting and Turning, CNC Machining or a related discipline.
- Forklift or dogging/rigging experience for handling large components.
