Are you an experienced pharmaceutical formulation scientist who enjoys taking a product from concept through to commercial manufacture?
At Phebra, we're looking for a technically strong and commercially minded Senior Product Development Chemist to play a key role in developing new pharmaceutical products and optimising our existing portfolio. This is a hands-on opportunity to apply your formulation expertise, scientific problem-solving and project management skills to products that ultimately become critical medicines for patients.
Working closely with other Phebra teams, you'll help move products from the laboratory through scale-up, regulatory approval and into routine commercial manufacture — making this role a core part of what we do to keep Phebra's product pipeline moving forward.

What you'll be doing in the role
As Senior Product Development Chemist, you'll lead the scientific development and optimisation of pharmaceutical products, with responsibilities including:
- Developing and optimising pharmaceutical formulations from laboratory through to commercial scale.
- Developing topical formulations and emulsions, including creams, gels, ointments and complex suspensions.
- Developing sterile injectable solutions under strict aseptic conditions.
- Generating development, stability and CMC data to support product registrations and regulatory variations.
- Designing and executing scientifically robust experiments and resolving complex formulation challenges.
- Developing robust manufacturing processes and leading technical transfer into commercial production.
- Managing product development projects, timelines and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Supporting process improvements and technical investigations for existing products.
- Preparing high-quality technical reports and documentation to strict deadlines.
- Providing technical leadership, mentoring and supervision to other Product Development Chemists.
About you
You're an experienced formulation scientist with solid pharmaceutical development expertise, excellent scientific judgement and the ability to take a formulation from an idea in the laboratory through to successful commercial manufacture. You'll bring:
- A Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Pharmaceutics or a related science discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical or animal health product formulation.
- Comprehensive experience with topicals, emulsions, creams, gels, ointments and complex suspensions.
- Proven experience developing sterile injectable solutions under aseptic conditions.
- Strong knowledge of cGMP, TGA requirements and Quality by Design (QbD) principles.
- Demonstrated experience scaling formulations from bench scale through pilot plant to full-scale commercial manufacturing.
- Advanced formulation troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including diagnosing issues such as phase separation and active ingredient degradation.
- Strong project management, organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and strict deadlines.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- A proactive, collaborative approach and the confidence to provide technical leadership and mentoring.
