The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) is a national not-for-profit organisation representing the property development industry. Established in 1971, the Queensland office is the largest of the UDIA state bodies.

Our members are property development professionals and our business is about building communities. The UDIA Queensland consists of a head office in Brisbane, complemented by 13 regional branches around the State.

Launched in 2006, EnviroDevelopment is the Institute's sustainability rating tool. The EnviroDevelopment framework is based on recognition of high achievement across a wide range of development types and situations. It has been structured to encourage innovation and incentives to ensure that the best environmental solutions are being used today, for a better tomorrow.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who is passionate about sustainable development. The Institute’s Sustainability Lead is the engine room of the EnviroDevelopment program.

You will drive the success of the Institute's sustainability program by ensuring the effective management of certifications and recertifications within the EnviroDevelopment program as well as building a strong pipeline of recent business opportunities. You are an organised, pragmatic, process-driven, people person with strong communication skills, well-versed in sustainability in a built environment context, with the ability to interact with a variety of stakeholders who hold varying positions within an organisation.

We're looking for a fantastic communicator with intelligence, energy, enthusiasm, and willingness to go the extra mile. Tertiary environmental qualifications would be a distinct advantage.

About the role

The Sustainability Lead is responsible for the Institute's sustainability program, providing end to end management of EnviroDevelopment, including budget and financial performance, business development, management of certifications and recertifications, delivering EnviroDevelopment's training program, upholding the good governance of the EnviroDevelopment rating program, EnviroDevelopment Board of Management secretariat duties, as well as identifying and developing new process and product offerings to grow the financial success and market reach of EnviroDevelopment.

Key responsibilities

- Manage activities relating to the EnviroDevelopment program nationally, ensuring compliance with the National Operations Guide and associated Partner Deeds

- Actively identify project leads, engage and manage projects through the application pipeline





- Manage EnviroDevelopment project certifications and review applications, providing appropriate feedback to applicants and reports to the Board of Management

- Undertake Secretariat tasks for the Board of Management

- Ensure documents and accurate records pertaining to EnviroDevelopment certified projects are maintained

- Review, monitor, and deliver the recertification of EnviroDevelopment projects

- Effectively manage and grow the EnviroDevelopment Professionals Program, including organising and running professional courses, project workshops, and technical forums

- Manage the EnviroDevelopment budget, including forecasting and performance reporting to ensure financial targets are exceeded

- Actively seek opportunities to enhance and expand the EnviroDevelopment offering including new processes, tools, training modules, or services to drive growth

- Contribute to the development of UDIA Queensland policy submissions and technical documents as required

About you

- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline

- Ability to learn recent topics quickly and think creatively

- Interest in property development industry

- Passion for sustainable outcomes in the built environment

- Strong ability in relationship management including the ability to interact with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders

- Ability to work autonomously

- Effective project management and financial management, with demonstrated ability to deliver against budget and identify growth opportunities
