WHY WORK FOR PICKLES
- Work flexibly and remotely most of the time
- Truly partner with your client groups on every stage of the employment life cycle
- Be part of a supportive and friendly team focused on delivering great service
- 9 month fixed term contract covering parental leave with opportunity to extend
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a strong team player to join our friendly, close knit People & Culture team in a fixed term full time role for 9 months as a parental leave cover from October this year based in Melbourne. Depending on the landscape of the team in 2027, there may be also an opportunity to extend the contract. This role will be based in Melbourne and will partner with a diverse client group including some of our Melbourne based branches, with offices based in Tullamarine and Altona.
At Pickles, the People & Culture Business Partners engage and truly partner with their client groups, providing advice and coaching on every stage of the employment lifecycle. You will develop a deep understanding of the business, balancing the people and commercial landscapes to focus on business outcomes and results.
In this role, you will be part of a team of nine, reporting to our National People & Culture Manager and partnering with some of our branches as well as a head office client group. This role would suit someone who is currently at a solid advisor level or developing into a business partner, with strong recruitment and advisory skills and is comfortable managing ER issues alongside on site managers fairly autonomously. The team has a hybrid work arrangement and the successful candidate will work from one of our local sites 2 days per week at either the Tullamarine or Altona branches.
We're a collaborative, down to earth team, looking for someone who enjoys the hands-on operational side of human resources along with projects to join us.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing hands on coaching and advice to your client group on people matters such as performance and conduct management,
grievances and other day-to-day matters - whilst hands on support is essential and some matters will be reactive, our intention is to build capability without doing all of the work for leaders in the long term
- Building leadership capability and self-sufficiency in your client group by creating and maintaining relationships with leaders through regular, open conversations that support business outcomes, proactive coaching and solutions, providing on-the-ground support through employee matters
- Supporting your client group through annual processes such as remuneration review, performance reviews, engagement survey and talent review
- Working closely with the People & Culture Coordinators on administration of the employee lifecycle while mentoring them
- Providing recruitment support to your client group from role brief to onboarding stages, with end-to-end support from our P&C; Coordinators
- Managing and mitigating risk of external litigation and reputational damage by working closely with key business stakeholders to ensure the business is compliant with legislation in areas pertaining to employees, such as ER, discrimination, EEO, bullying and harassment and preparing responses to applications to the Fair Work Commission for your client group
- Working in partnership with leaders you support to strengthen the culture of Pickles through the delivery of People & Culture initiatives and role modelling the behaviours that underpin our culture
There will also be opportunities to work closely with the team on People & Culture projects, processes, systems and initiatives in line with your interests.
ABOUT YOU
Key Experience & Skills
- Pragmatic and action orientated with a background of effectively partnering with your client groups in a hands on way
- Down to earth with a sense of humour - we enjoy our work and we take it seriously, but we keep things in perspective
- An up and coming People & Culture Business Partner who enjoys and understand the importance of hands-on operational HR activities
- You will ideally have experience in the entire People & Culture remit as a generalist
- Have owned diverse client groups and have experience supporting client groups of 150+ leaders and employees mixed
- Experience working in a fast paced environment that will have high energy levels and a positive, flexible and collaborative style
- You communicate and think commercially, balancing the people and commercial landscapes to focus on business outcomes and results, not on People & Culture processes and jargon
