Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service. Servicing the communities of Cape York, with the main office is located in Cairns, Apunipima delivers public health care, and social and emotional well-being care, to community members. Being a part of the team at Apunipima means helping us deliver essential services as well as building capacity in communities to manage their own health care needs.
About the Opportunity
The Medicare Administration Officer is responsible of providing support organisational systems to optimise the generation and realisation of Medicare, and related revenue sources for Apunipima.
Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community.
About you:
To be successful in the role you will need;
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, with previous administration experience, preferably within a medical or healthcare workplace, and the ability to engage effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols, customs and community control principles.
- Proven administrative and computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, databases, email and internet applications, supported by strong organisational, time management and attention to detail capabilities.
- Sound understanding of the historical and contemporary issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly in Cape York, with the flexibility and willingness to travel throughout the region by light aircraft or 4WD as required.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Medicare billing items and medical terms Proficiency with medical software and billing systems.
Mandatory Requirement:
- Certificate III Business Administration (Medical) or willing and able to undertake study.
- Current Queensland Drivers Licence
- Blue Card (Working with Children Card)
- Australian Federal Police Check
