About the role

We are seeking an experienced Design Draftsperson / Mechanical Designer to join our team in Hallam. This is a hands-on and wide-ranging role suited to someone who enjoys taking a project from concept through to detailed design, procurement, manufacture, assembly and completion. You will work closely with our workshop, suppliers and sales team to develop practical, cost-effective engineering solutions that can be manufactured and delivered to our customers.

Key responsibilities
Design and draft testing instruments, measurement machines and custom machinery from concept to completion
Create 3D digital prototypes using Autodesk Inventor
Produce detailed component and assembly drawings
Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Design and integrate machined components, sheet metal, pneumatics, hydraulics, linear motion, electrical and electronic systems
Perform design calculations and, where required, FEA/stress analysis
Prepare hazard identification and risk assessments
Develop inspection checklists and manufacturing documentation
Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations for parts, materials and services
Schedule machining and assembly work within the IDM workshop

About you




A qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years' experience in a mechanical design/drafting role
Strong proficiency in Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD or a similar 3D CAD package
Robust understanding of mechanical design and manufacturing principles
Experience producing detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings
Ability to interpret and develop BOMs and manufacturing documentation
Experience working with machining, sheet metal and mechanical assemblies
An understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, linear motion and automation technologies
Excellent attention to detail and a practical, problem-solving approach
Solid organisational and communication skills
