Join our Works team operating plant and equipment to deliver essential infrastructure services across the Hinchinbrook Shire 04th September, **** Slasher Operator Ongoing Full time The Opportunity As an Operator/Slasher, you will be responsible for the secure and efficient operation of Council plant and equipment, primarily undertaking roadside slashing, vegetation management and maintenance activities.
You will contribute to the delivery of Council's infrastructure maintenance programs and support a range of civil construction and maintenance works, helping to maintain safe and well-presented roadsides and public areas across the Shire.
What Council Offers: 76 hour fortnight with roster variations depending on the position (9-day fortnight - RDOs in accordance with Council policy) Up to 12.5% Superannuation employer contribution for contributing members 5 weeks annual leave plus 17.5% annual leave loading 15 days paid sick/carers leave Salary Packaging options Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Accredited Mental Health First Aid Officers Annual Flu vaccinations + Skin Checks Corporate Uniforms (annual allowance) and PPE supplied General Salary Information: This position is classified as Level 5C under the Hinchinbrook Shire Council Local Government Officers (Stream A) Certified Agreement.
The salary is $67,181 per annum plus superannuation.
Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate is a reliable and safety-conscious operator with experience working in civil construction, maintenance or a local government environment.
You enjoy working outdoors, take pride in maintaining equipment and delivering quality work, and have the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
You are committed to safe work practices, can undertake physically demanding tasks in varying weather conditions,



and bring the skills and licences required to operate a range of plant and machinery used in roadside maintenance and vegetation management activities.
Key Responsibilities Operate slashers, tractors, trucks and other Council plant and equipment to undertake roadside vegetation management and maintenance activities.
Undertake mowing, slashing and vegetation control works across roadsides, reserves, parks and other Council-controlled areas.
Assist with civil construction, maintenance and repair works on roads, drainage and other Council infrastructure.
Conduct routine plant inspections, pre-start checks and basic servicing, reporting any maintenance requirements as required.
Maintain a safe work environment by following safe work practices, traffic control requirements and Council procedures.
Work collaboratively as part of a team to deliver quality outcomes for the community.
Participate in emergency response, disaster recovery and after-hours operational activities as required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities.
The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
